The Plan – Item 1 • Provide levels of student expertise and competencies (done) • Three levels identified: • expertise for all LIS graduates • expertise for metadata catalogers • expertise for leaders of cataloging and metadata projects.
The Plan – Item 2 • Create a “Metadata Basics” information package for educators, etc. (in progress; Marcia Zeng has finished a preliminary draft)
The Plan – Item 3 • Discussion list for issues related to cataloging and metadata education and training educat@loc.gov (done)
The Plan – Item 4 • Create a Web Clearinghouse for resources related to teaching cataloging and metadata (in progress; Anita Coleman, University of Arizona, has been hired to set up the site)
The Plan – Item 5 • Prepare 1 day conference on teaching strategies for metadata education • Held January 9, 2003 at ALA Midwinter – approximately 100 participants, including faculty, part-time faculty, and continuing cataloging educators.
