  1. Books that Made a Difference to Morgan Acosta December 17, 2013

  2. When I was about 11 years old I saw my mom sitting on the couch reading a book that she had been reading all day. I never once saw her get up off of the couch except for one time when she used the restroom. I sat on the couch with her and watched her as she read the book until she was completely finished with it. When she put the book down I asked her what it was called and if I could borrow it. She gave it to me right away and I went straight into my room and began reading. It took me about one night to read the entire book cover to cover and I didn’t put it down until I was finished. Ever since then I have been crazy about reading. If it wasn’t for my mom I probably wouldn’t have a love for reading like I do now.

  3. My Sister’s KeeperBy: Jodi Picoult My Sister’s keeper is about a 13-year-old girl named Anna Fitzgerald. Anna was created to be a donor for her 16-year-old sister Kate who has leukemia. Because she feels she doesn’t have rights to her own body, she hires an attorney to sue her parents. She feels if she wins the lawsuit she will no longer have to donate one of her kidneys to her sister. The book My Sister’s Keeper was the book that really got me started on reading. I had never really read any other books before it. When I started the book I didn’t put the book down until I was completely finished. This book has made such a difference to me and if it wasn’t for this book I would probably still hate reading to this day.

  4. 11 Birthdays By: Wendy Mass 11 Birthdays is about a girl named Amanda who is really excited for her 11th birthday, the only problem is that the boy who she had been sharing her birthday party with every year will not be this year because they aren’t very close anymore. When Amanda goes to bed the night of her birthday, happy for the day to be over, she wakes up the next morning to find that she is reliving her birthday over again. This book had the same effect on me as the book My Sister’s Keeper. 11 birthdays was a book that I picked up at Barnes and Noble one day when I was with my dad because he told me I had to get a book to read. I thought the cover looked neat so I picked it up and started reading, thinking I would hate it and have no interest in it at all. Little did I know that I would fall in love with it. Before the book, my dad would get mad at me when I was spending too much time in my room playing on the computer. But once I got the book, he would get mad at me when I locked myself in my room and not come out because I was reading.

  5. The Cat in the HatBy: Dr. Suess The Cat in the Hat is about two children that are left in their house alone when their mom leaves. As they are doing their chores a cat with an oversized bowtie and a hat walk in and causes chaos. While their fish tries to keep them on track because he knows what they are doing wrong, the house just gets messier and messier. As the day goes by, the children realize that they are going to have to clean the entire house before their mom gets home. This was the book I read most as a child. Every night I would get into bed and my dad would read it to me. Because I would usually fall asleep before he finished reading, we could never get through the book and if we did it was very rare. This book made a difference to me because it gave my dad and I a chance to bond over reading at such a young age, and we still talk about books together to this day.
