  1. Civil Air Patrol Class Expectations, Rules, and Policies

  2. Class Expectations • Respect – I expect you to treat others as you would want to be treated • Dillow Rule – I expect paper and other objects to stay on your desk and not fly across my room unless otherwise authorized during an Aerospace Activity • Be Prepared – I expect you to bring all books, binders, paper, and pens/pencils to class • I expect you to follow all rules and regulations specified in your SOI

  3. Uniforms (BDU) • I expect you to wear them on Tuesdays and other allowable days • To wear BDUs, you must have a complete set of them • A complete set includes a blouse, pants, a plain brown, black, or unitt-shirt, a cover, a blue nametape, a blue Civil Air Patrol tape, CAP cutouts or cadet grade, a wing patch and a reverse American Flag patch

  4. Uniforms (BDU) • They may be found at most Army/Navy Surplus stores or you may purchase them from Chaplain Smalley if she has a pair that will fit you • Cost varies on where you get them and the condition in which they are in • Nametapes, Civil Air Patrol tapes, and other accoutrements may be purchased through the squadron

  5. Uniforms (Blues) • The Blue Uniform must be earned – the Curry Achievement must be completed • The Requirements • Leadership Test • Drill and Ceremonies Test • A Physical Training Test • Participate in Character Development • Behavior is also taken into account

  6. Uniforms (Blues) • The blue uniform is provided by Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters and is the property of the Civil Air Patrol and the USAF • If you do not choose to stay in the program, the uniform must be returned to the unit (in this case Lieutenant Colonel Smalley)

  7. Uniforms (Physical Training) • You may wear a plain brown, black t-shirt, or a CAP t-shirt • You may wear blue, black, or maroon athletic shorts • You must wear socks with athletic shoes (no skater or flat bottom shoes or combat boots) • You may wear blue, black, grey, or maroon sweats in the winter time

  8. Regulation Hair • Cadets will have a regulation hair cut or style • Males, this means that the hair must have “a tapered appearance on both sides and back, both with and without headgear. A tapered appearance is one that when view from any angle outlines the individual’s hair so that it conforms to the shape of the head, curving inward to the natural termination point. Block cut permitted with tapered appearance” CAPM 39-1.

  9. Regulation Hair • Cadets will have a regulation hair cut or style • Females, they must keep their hair off of the bottom of their collar and the hair must be “styled to present a professional appearance. Plain and conservative pins, combs, headbands, elastic bands and barrettes similar to the individual’s hair color are permitted to keep hair in place” CAPM 39-1.

  10. Emergency Procedures • Lock Down • I will get the door lock and the curtain • One student will get the lights • One student will get the flashlight from my desk • All students will go to the wall with the door on it and will stand quietly until lockdown is over or until other instructions are given • No student may use their cell phone during a lockdown because it could impede communications for the police

  11. Emergency Procedures • Fire Drill • One quiet single file line lined up at the door • We will exit the building quietly through the closest unblocked Exit Door (we go out the front doors next to the office) • We will proceed to the empty parking lot and fill in an empty parking space • Stay quiet line until the all clear is given or given new instructions • No student may use their cell phone during a fire drill because it could impede communications for the fire department

  12. Emergency Procedures • Air Quality • Bad Air Quality outside • All students and teachers stay inside

  13. Emergency Procedures • Outer doors locked • All outside doors will be locked • Students and Teachers stay inside the building

  14. Emergency Procedures • Inclement Weather (Tornados/Severe Thunderstorms) • Students will sit along the walls of the classroom as we are in an interior wall room • When told, students will duck and cover because weather is imminent • When told, students will return to class or follow new instructions • No student may use their cell phone during an Inclement Weather situation because it could impede communications for the Emergency Responders

  15. After School Meetings • After school meetings are a required part of the program if you wish to promote • Day: Tuesday • Time: 1630-1900 (4:30-7:00 pm) • Uniform: Uniform of the day (the assigned uniform for each meeting) • A uniform is required to come to the meetings once you have been in CAP for 4 months
