Think of a time when… • You reached a goal or achieved something that you had to work for (IT COULD BE A GOAL THAT YOU ARE STILL WORKING ON) • Example: Making a sports team, learning a new technique, receiving an A in a difficult class, solving a problem, etc.. • What did you have to do to reach that goal?

  6. Abraham Lincoln • Vision: reunify the nation • Carry Out Vision: • Pardoned officials • Allowed states to form new governments • Freedmen’s Bureau- set up schools and hospitals & give out clothes and food for African Americans

  7. Andrew Johnson • Vision: continue Lincoln’s plan, just less forgiving • Carry Out Vision: • New states must ratify 13th Amendment or would lose reps. In congress (less votes for those states) • Southerners must pledge loyalty otherwise, government would take their property

  8. Southern State Governments • Vision: white mans government for white men only • Carry Out Vision: • Some refused to ratify the 13th Amendment • Black codes- limited freedom of former slaves
