  3. 1. Service Introduction I. Introduction Learning Net • What is Learning-Net for? • Learning-Net (English) is LGE's corporate training portal in which employees are supported to obtain and apply necessary knowledge by taking online courses, and communicating with other learners. • Oversea employees can enhance their competency and performance through timely, accessible, and tailored e-learning services in Learning-Net. • Learning Center also supports training management service to meet the increasing needs of human resources development from worldwide operations. • Learning-Net supports localized running and managing training events. • Learning Center helps developing rapid localized training materials. • For whom? • Employees working outside Korea • Employees whose 1st language is other than Korean or Chinese (optional) • Foreign Service Employees who collaborate with the local employees (optional) • How many courses? • Currently about 250 courses in 5 categories (leadership & management, professional development, IT, technology, product training) • How is it different from Korean/Chinese version? • Courses and (central) operational services are provided in English while a locally developed course offering can be provided in local language. • It has separate sign-on system from that of other LGE web services.

  5. II. Login (Method 1: Direct Access) • Type www.learning-net.com in your browser address pane. • Enter your email address (eg. gregshin@lge.com) at the [Username] field. • Enter the first part of your email (eg. gregshin) at the [Password] field unless you changed it. • Click [Login] button.

  6. II. Login (Method 2: Access through LGEP) At the first page of LGEP, click ‘Learning Net (Global)’ icon.

  7. III. Learner Home Menus • Admin Go to 'Admin' Home. Catalog • View, browse, search courses. • 6. Home • View enrolled courses and play them. • 7. Calendar • View and make personal schedules. • 8. Profile • View personal information, transcripts and reports. • 9. Manager • View employees' report, authorize employee's enrollment. • This tab is shown to the manger only.

  8. You can find a course by selecting categories. There are four major categories: Leadership & Management, Professional Development, IT, and Technology. 2. You can also find a course directly by putting a keyword on a search field. You can use a wild card character '%' which replaces all kinds of letters. For example, '%vision' includes supervision, envision, etc. IV. Course Catalog In the Catalog tab, there are two ways to find a course.

  9. V. Course Enrollment The details of the course you have selected will be displayed. You can enroll in an offering of a course. Click Enroll icon. Some courses have an unlimited capacity and unlimited periods. Some courses end at a specified date and have a limited capacity.

  11. 2. In the Course Player VI. Course Player You can play the content of the enrolled course offering in the course player (window). Player features • Email: Send an email to the instructor. • References: View reference materials of the course in the left frame. • Outline: By clicking this link, you can toggle the topic tree on the left window frame. • Rate: Rate and review this course. • Previous, Next: Move one step forward or backward in the topic tree. • Home: Return to Learner Home. • Detach Navigator: Detach the lefthand frame as a separate window from the player. • Help: Show player help. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 9.   12. 1. User Information VII. Profile • Go to Profile > User Information to review your personal information. • Always keep your personal information up to date.

  13. Transcripts show completed, expired, and unenrolled courses. In the completed offerings section, you can view the final certificate of the course by clicking the certificate icon. ‘User Reports’ provide two reports for learners. Individual Performance: shows all the courses you’ve taken and current status of them Assessment Report: shows the result of a specific test, or a group of tests. Use wildcard(%), if you are not sure about the exact name of the text. 2. Transcripts and Reports VII. Profile

  14. VIII. Asking Help There are four ways to get advice while using Learning-Net: Open Q&A, Open Chats, Help, and E-mail. [1] Home > Open Forums > Open Q&A [2] Home > Open Chats > Open chat session [3] System Help [4] E-mail to the administrator, Greg Shin.

  15. Addendum: System Requirements 1. Get the newest version of browser. (1) Internet Explorer • Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install ALL the critical programs which will affect your browser performance and securities. (2) Mozilla FireFox • Go to http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ and get the newest version of FireFox. It is free from Active X security flaws and works well with learning-net system. (3) Mozilla • It is a little bit slower than Firefox but has much more features.

  16. Addendum: System Requirements 2. Stop any kinds of pop-up blocking functions. (1) For Windows XP Service Pack 2 • Select [Tools] > [Pop-up blocker] > [Pop-up blocker settings] menu from your Internet Explorer. • Add "www.learning-net.com" and "ln.lge.com" to "Allowed sites". (2) For Mozilla Firefox • Select [Tools] > [Options…] > Web Features > Uncheck "Block popup windows" item. • Or add "www.learning-net.com" and "ln.lge.com" to Allowed sites list. (3) For other kinds of popup blockers • If you installed Google Toolbar or Yahoo! Toolbar, you need to set the pop-up blocking options to allow popups at learning-net site. www.learning-net.com ln.lge.com

  17. Addendum: System Requirements 3. Download the newest version of Java. (1) Go to http://java.com and click [Java Software Download] button. (2) Click either one of [Download] buttons. (3) When installed properly, Visit java.com again and you will see "YOU'VE GOT THE LATEST" message.

  18. Addendum: System Requirements 4. Check additional browser configurations. (for Internet Explorer) (1) Always check newer pages. Select [Tools] from the browser menu, choose [Internet Options...], move to [General] tab, and click [ Settings... ] button under [Temporary Internet Files] group. Select the [Every visit to the page] method of how to check for newer versions of stored pages. (2) Accept cookies. Select [Tools] from the browser menu, choose [Internet Options...], move to [Privacy] tab, click [Advanced] button, and set the values as shown below .

  19. Addendum: System Requirements 4. Check additional browser configurations. (for Internet Explorer) (3) Set security level for Internet as Medium. Select [Tools] from the browser menu, choose [Internet Options...], move to [Security] tab, and set your Internet security level as Medium by clicking [ Default Level ] button. (4) Set default JVM as SUN's JRE If you installed both Microsoft JVM and JRE from SUN Microsystems, use SUN's JRE instead of Microsoft's JVM. Select [Tools] from the browser menu, choose [Internet Options...], move to [Advanced] tab, find Java (SUN) group, and check the options as shown below. Do not forget to uncheck all Java options under Microsoft VM section, if there are any.
