  3. Lone Star Stroke Consortium (LSS) Primary Objectives To improve the lives of Texans at risk for or suffering stroke. To establish a state-wide clinical research network linking academic health institutions with proven expertise in stroke research to community stroke centers. To conduct patient-centered research and therapeutic trials within Texas aimed at the prevention and treatment of stroke. Funding LSS is funded from the Texas State Legislature through DSHS Opportunities to leverage State funding for external grants in support of specific projects are being pursued.

Lone Star Stroke Progress • Lone Star Stroke has met its milestone driven deliverables as specified in the DSHS contract • Activity at five Hubs and 21 spoke partner sites has begun. • The LSS research network serves annually more than seven thousand Texans with stroke and cerebrovascular disease. These patients comprise the population screened for inclusion in LSS clinical studies. • Four clinical research projects have been approved forward by the External Advisory Committeeand are in progress

Lone Star Stroke Progress • The LSS was selected to make a presentation to the recent 2015 International Stroke Conference of the American Heart Association, the world’s largest gathering of stroke researchers • LSS Hub UTHSC Houston was named Regional Coordinating Center for the NIH StrokeNet clinical trials network and LSS centers are sites in StrokeNet, assuring a steady pipeline of externally funded studies into Lone Star Stroke. • LSS administrative coordinating core has been established at the Austin Hub and the data management core at the UTHSC Houston Hub.

  15. Active Studies CLOTBUST-ER. Status: completed. Lone Star Stroke participated in this world-wide clinical trial that evaluated a Texas technology to assess whether ultrasound delivered into a clot improves the efficacy of tPA therapy for stroke. Lone Star Stroke sites enrolled 26 patients, 9 by telemedicine, about 5% of all patients. The study was halted and analyses are on-going to determine whether any subgroups of patients benefited. • NASCare • V-STOP II • LESTER
