  1. The Earth and the MoonFor Third Grade By Laura Pace

  2. The Earth and the moon are shaped like spheres. A sphere is a big circular shape, just like a basketball.

  3. Let’s test what you know. Which object is a sphere? A Disco Ball Pizza Tire B C

  4. CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Sun and Earth are completely round, not just round from one angle like a pizza or a tire. They are round ALL ova! - like a disco ball.

  5. The Sun’s Role to the moon Did you know that the Sun is what lights the moon? Without it, we would never see the moon. It would always be a ‘new moon’; we would not ever see it because there would be no sun on it.

  6. How the Sun lights the Moon The Moon shows us many different "faces“, or phases. They are the result of the way the Sun lights the Moon's surface as the Moon orbits Earth. The Moon can only be seen as a result of the Sun's light reflecting off it. It does not produce any light of its own.

  7. Confused? Watch this video to better understand the phases of the moon

  8. The difference between the Earth and Moon Click on the pictures below to visit a website and study the Moon and the Earth’s physical features.

  9. The Basics • Earth • is able to have soil and water so plants can grow which gives us oxygen. • Moon • does not have any kind of life. It does have: • -Thousands of craters • Large circular plains called maria • Large mountains

  10. Objective 1 Describe the appearance of Earth and the moon. Describe the shape of Earth and the moon as spherical. Explain that the sun is the source of light that lights the moon. List the differences in the physical appearance of Earth and the moon as viewed from space.
