  4. True story of a Lost Pet: Penny’s Story “I adopted Penny from a rescue booth at a pet store when I moved out of my parents house to go to college. She was a petite gray tabby cat, and she was the last of her litter. She was older than the other cats at who were at the booth that day, and everyone there was cooing over the tiny kittens. I was connected to her immediately. Her sweet demeanor charmed me instantly. Penny travelled the country with me, and everywhere I went…she went. Penny tolerated it every time we moved, or got roommates, or new pets. She was a sweet and good kitty. She never feared anything, and was always happy. More than a decade passed, and I had gotten married, and inherited more pets. Penny stayed true. She was the rock. She always snuggled up next to us, and she loved the dogs too. We would often find her, and our dogs cuddled up in a pile on the couch. (cont. next slide…)

  5. Penny’s story cont… One day, Penny went outside as she often did to patrol for lizards. She didn’t return that day, and we weren’t too concerned because she would stay out overnight from time to time. Well, then a couple days passed and the sinking feeling in my stomach got worse and worse as the days became weeks. We searched for her everywhere. We put up signs, and even got a couple phone calls of Good Samaritans reporting a sighting, but to no avail. We talked with the shelter, and filed a report. We kept looking, but as the months passed we started to lose hope that she was just visiting someone and would return eventually. It has been a year now, and I while I pray that she returns, I realize that it is unlikely. I don’t know if a microchip would have reunited us or not, but I sure wish I would have given her one so that I could at least have 1 less regret about the whole thing. Our family misses Penny, who we all called Nana (because she was the old lady of the house) everyday.”

  6. Found pet w chip • An entire community helped us find our Sam. We spent hours putting flyers everywhere and driving hours every day and the flyers we put in mail boxes helped the most. People would immediately get them and call with sightings, which helped us tremendously, but we had one major setback. One town refused to let us put them in the mail box and removed over two hundred flyers and threw them away, which at the time was devastating because Sam was now missing for over eight days. So we went door to door handing out the flyers. I cannot tell you how fortunate we were because strangers sighted Sam and helped us look at 1:00 am in the morning. Sam is very afraid of strangers so unfortunately she traveled another twenty miles away from our home. We never gave up hope and prayed constantly for her to just be safe and for us to find her. After two weeks missing, God brought her to a loving family who spent three hours coaxing her by sitting on a road with dog treats to get her to come to them. She got close enough for them to read the HomeAgain tag and number. After we returned home one night from looking for her, HomeAgain called and said a family had Sam. Those were the most beautiful words I had heard; they immediately put us on the phone with the family and got directions to pick up Sam. It was unbelievable when we got there because Sam is afraid of everyone, but their little boy had his arms wrapped around her and was hugging her. As soon as she saw us she sort of stepped back like she didn't recognize us but then let out the loudest cry we've ever heard and jumped into our arms and cried. If it were not for the kindness of strangers and a lot of prayers and HomeAgain, I don’t know what we would have continued to do. They renewed our faith in the world.
