  4. National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 to October 15--Recognition of the contributions of Hispanic and Latin Americans to the heritage and culture of the United States--

  5. Texan and Mexican-American Richard E. Cavazos was the first Hispanic person to become a four-star general in the United States Army. • He graduated from Texas Tech University and went on to serve in the Korean war as the commander of the 65th Infantry Regiment. • He then served in Vietnam as commander of the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Division. • He received a number of military honors, including the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. • Cavazos died in San Antonio in 2017. https://www.rd.com/culture/hispanic-americans-who-made-history/ Richard E.   8. Let’s Make Some Money!!! It’s our Fall Fundraiser. The funds from this fundraiser will help with Teacher Appreciation Week, Student Appreciation Day, and much more. Our goal is $6,000.  We Can Do It! If everyone sells something, we can make this goal!

  10. White Cane Safety Day White Cane Safety Day is a national observance in the United States, celebrated on October 15 of each year since 1964. The white cane is a symbol of blindness, but also a tool of independence. The date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired.

  14. YMS Tabletop Gaming Club Cancelled for this Week! • Do you like to play games? Join the Gaming Club! • Meet every Thursday in room 831 right after school until 5 PM. • Make sure you have a ride home! Get a form from Mr. Sernaker.

  15. Quidditch—Muggles Welcome! • YMS Quidditch Club meets every Tuesday. • Pick up a sports packet in the main office. Get that completed ASAP! • Meet in room 204 in the media center right after school. Come “S.O.A.R.” with us!
