  4. The ACT Cleveland High School Statewide Testing: March 20, 2018

  5. What is the ACT? • The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in: • English • Mathematics • Reading • Science • The Act includes 215 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete, including a short break. (Exception if you choose to take the writing portion. This would add 40 min to the test.) • ACT results are accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the US. • The basic registration fee includes score reports for up to four college choices. You must list these when you register.

  6. The ACT consist of four multiple-choice tests: • The content of what each test will measure can be found at actstudent.org • Optional Writing Test: 1 Prompt with 40 minutes (not included in statewide testing)

ACT Scores can range from 1-36 2016 CHS average was 19.9 TN Lottery requires 21 (or 3.0 GPA) Lee University minimum admission score is 17 Lee 2016 ACT Average of entering freshman was a 24.4 UTC minimum admission score is 18 UTC 2016 ACT Average of entering freshman was a 23.7 What score does my student need?

  9. How is it scored? Score Report Example Correct answers are converted into a score that ranges from 1 to 36. Only correct answers are counted. Points are not deducted for incorrect answers, answering every questions is encouraged. Composite scores are the average of your four test scores, rounded to the nearest whole number.

  10. A score at or above the ACT College Readiness Benchmarkindicates at least a 50% chance of obtaining a B or higheror about a 75% chance of obtaining a C or higher in thecorresponding first-year college course.

  12. Cleveland High School Resources • Within core courses – Courses are aligned to TN State Standards and ACT Standards. • Sophomore and Junior Level Climb Classes • ACT Blitz: review sessions • Occurs during long lunches • TBA prior to Statewide testing

Retesting • Expected Composite Score on a retest • 21% No change • 22% Decreased • 57% Increase • You can take the ACT a maximum of 12 times • Some colleges “super score” • Many students take it at least twice • You can register for national tests dates at actstudent.org • Registration fee is $46.00*, with writing is $62.50 *Fee waivers available to qualifying families.
