  2. Non-fiction texts • What do we mean by non-fiction texts? • Some examples are; newspaper and magazine articles, travel writing, autobiographies and cartoons • A lot of non-fiction texts use persuasive writing • Persuasive writing means writers expressing their own view point or opinion

  3. So, how do they do it! • Some techniques; • Providing evidence to support their case • Creating a structure to their argument • Offering personal experiences and knowledge to support their case • Making it sound like the logical conclusion that everyone must agree with

  4. So, how do they do it! • By using styleand language • Creating a sense of a personal ‘voice’, so the reader can relate to the argument on a human level • Language that appeals to the readers emotions • Colloquial language, to bring the argument down to earth • Tone, such as mocking, scornful, sarcastic, angry or bitter • Loaded questions, creating the impression that the reader is being invited to think for him/herself
