  1. Injury Mechanism of Facet Mediated Whiplash Neck PainBeth Winkelstein, University of Pennsylvania This project employs an in vivo model of painful cervical joint injury to explain the biomechanics of whiplash and sub-catastrophic neck injuries, ultimately defining physiological responses of neck pain in whiplash. Upon successful completion of the project, we will have determined whether subfailure damage to the facet capsule of the cervical vertebrae contributes to early signs of neck-based pain, as well as to chronic, intractable pain following whiplash.
