  2. Early life • Thomas Edison was born in Milan, Ohio. • His parents were named Samuel and Nancy. The couple was married in 1828. • When Thomas Alva Edison was born the family called him Little Al. • Little Al got into trouble a lot. Little Al had trouble in school so his parents homeschooled him.

  3. Adult life • Thomas Edison was 32 years old when he showed off the first practical light bulb. • In 1884 his wife became sick and died in August. • In 1885 he met a young woman named Mina Miller. • Mina was well educated and her family was wealthy. • Thomas Edison’s workshop was at Menlo Park, New Jersey.

  4. Contributions • No one else could make a light bulb. • Thomas Edison said “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration. • He made the first practical light bulb in 1879. • Thomas Edison thought he could make a light bulb.

  5. Fun Facts • Thomas Edison moves his business to Menlo Park, New Jersey. • Develops the phonograph and records the human voice. • He opens the first motion-picture studio. • Receives the Congressional Gold Medal in 1928.

  6. Conclusion • This person is remembered by making the light bulb. • He died on 1931. • When he became sick and weak he worked on his inventions because it made him live longer.
