  2. "I already have a driver's license, so I don't need a motorcycle license right?" Yes, Virginia, You Need A Motorcycle License. All 50 states now require a motorcycle license if you ride a motorcycle on the highway. You first need a motorcycle learner's permit that varies from state-to-state.

  3. Here is the process: • Be at least 16 years of age. • Complete a driver's safety education course. • You may also need to complete a motorcycle safety instruction course. • You have to take and pass a written motorcycle exam. • And pass a vision test.

  4. You passed the initiation process, and your state will issue a motorcycle learner's permit. Your motorcycle learner's permit is valid for at least six months not to exceed two years in most states. Some states do have restrictions for you to follow during the permit period.
