  1. Tom Sawyer: Although he is not fysically present in the majority of the book Huck thinks about him at times when he tries to come up with a plan by thinking ”What would Tom do?”. Tom is an intelligent young boy who we find out is very well read when he tells Huck about several famous characters from books and accurately re-telling the stories. Tom is without a doubt Huck’s closest friend. Pap: The father of Huckleberry Finn, a drunk who before returning to St. Petersburg was presumed dead. The only reason for his return was to crave Huck’s treasure of 6000 dollars for his own benefit. His wife, and Huck’s mother was explained dead before the beginning of the book, we are not told why or how though. The woman who has a wish to civilize Huck by teaching him to be religous and proper manners so he won’t spend the after life in hell. Although Huck would prefer her leaving him alone he respects her and similar to Tom Sawyer he at times also thinks twice about how she would feel about the way he would act before he does anything. She is Miss. Watsons sister, who is the reason Jim becomes free in the end. A coloured slave who works and belongs to Miss. Watson. Huck is familiar with him after having played several pranks on him together with Tom. He becomes more familiar with him after their journey along the Mississipi river with the hope of finding a town where it is safe for Jim to settle down and live a normal life as a free man and work so he, one day can buy his wife and children out of slavery.
