  2. What is a NOUN? • A noun is a word or word group that is used to name a PERSON PLACE THING IDEA EXAMPLES:

  4. PROPER NOUNS Names a particular person, place, thing or idea Begins with a capital letter COMMON NOUNS names any one of a group of persons, places, things, or ideas generally not capitalized PROPER NOUNS vs. COMMON NOUNS

  5. CONCRETE NOUNS You experience concrete nouns through your five senses: sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch. If you cannot see, hear, taste, touch, or smell something, it is not a concrete noun. ABSTRACT NOUNS Abstract nouns are like the opposite of concrete nouns. These are nouns that name things you cannot see, smell, taste, hear, or touch. They refer to emotions, ideas, concepts, beliefs, or your state of being. CONCRETE NOUNS vs. ABSTRACT NOUNS

  9. Possessive Nouns • Nouns that show ownership or possession. They can be singular possessive or plural possessive. • Singular possessive – The car’s bumper had a large dent. • Plural possessive – Many cars’ bumpers had large dents.

Noun Sort • You have a list of nouns that you must sort into different categories. • A noun can be used in more that one category. • For example, the noun “baseball” is common, concrete, and compound – so you would write it in all 3 categories. • You will work with a clock partner to complete this activity. • GOOD LUCK!
