  2. The overall goal of the NTDSC is to improve the oral health of American Indian people in the Pacific Northwest.

  3. Collaboration with the 34 IHS/Tribal dental programs in the Portland Area to address the broad challenges and opportunities associated with these dental programs.

  4. Four-prong approach • Clinical Program Support • Prevention Program Support • Implementation of an oral health surveillance system (BSS) • Provision of CDE opportunities

  5. Sample Activities • On-site program reviews • Public health orientation for new dental staff • Quarterly newsletter and email groups • Assist with grant writing • On-site and regional CDE courses • Yearly Prevention Coordinators and Dental Chiefs meetings

  13. Dental Access for Young Children: A Missed Opportunity • 100 children X 4 visits = 400 visits 400 visits X $300 = $120,000 • We are missing opportunities to increase revenueAND prevent ECC • We need the support of the tribes, CEOs, and SU administration to prevent ECC

  15. NTDSC Highlights • Provide 6-8 clinical and prevention site visits • Provide dental staff with CDE credits • Completed Oral Health Surveys on 1-5 year olds last year and 6-8 year olds this year. • Ongoing communication with 34 programs.

NTDSC Highlights: Grants • NTDSC marketed and provided technical assistance to Portland Area dental programs for various funding opportunities. • 8/39 Portland Area dental programs received free supplies and CDE as participants in the national ECC Virtual Learning Community. • 3/15 Portland Area dental programs received national HP/DP awards.
