  2. Method Respondents were New Zealanders aged 18 and over. In total 1,000 New Zealanders took part in this research. Only demographic differences that are significant at the 95% confidence interval are shown. Respondents were sourced from Colmar Brunton’s online panel. The data was post-weighted so the final sample is representative of New Zealanders 18+ by age, gender, and region. Percentages may not add to 100% or nett scores due to rounding. % n=1,000 Fieldwork – 21 – 25 June 2017. The question was asked in a standalone online survey (i.e., not an omnibus).

Most New Zealanders think that New Zealand should adopt a zero fisheries bycatch goal Males are more likely to disagree with the idea and females are more likely to agree, while people aged 40-49 years old are more likely to answer neither nor. People aged 60+ are less likely to strongly agree with the idea, but their overall agreement (strongly agree and agree) is the same. Q Do you think that New Zealand should adopt a zero fisheries bycatch goal, which would aim to reduce the number of protected marine mammals killed by commercial fishing towards zero?
