  1. SECURITY AND PARKING SERVICES A PRO-ACTIVE APPROACH TO CAMPUS SECURITY AND PARKING ISSUES

  2. WHO ARE WE? • The College has a ‘hybrid’ model approach to providing security • I am the Manager, responsible for the Security and Parking operations at all our Campuses except IAHS • Reporting to me is an Operations Coordinator and 5 College Security Officers together with 30 members of the Corps of Commissionaires and a Parking Office Staff of 2

  3. HOW DO WE OPERATE? • Fennell Campus is the hub of our activities and Security is provided 24 hours a day 365 days a year • Remote Campuses are operational about 15 hours per day Monday through Friday with limited service at weekends

  4. HOW DO WE OPERATE? • Fennell Campus monitors the Silent Alarm systems at all Campuses, the Fire Alarms, panic alarms and CCTV systems • The systems at each of the remote Campuses are monitored by their staff when they are on site • We maintain a high visible profile throughout the College with uniformed officers on foot patrols

  5. WHERE ARE WE LOCATED? • We operate out of the Security Operations Centre in Room C103 and you can contact us at extension 2003. • At Brantford we are at the main lobby, at Stoney Creek in Room 80 and at Wentworth in Room A11

  6. CONTACTING US • All Security Officers are in contact with two way radios • My Operations Co-ordinator, John Pooler is on site from 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday thru Friday • My direct number is 905 575 2316 and cell number 905 981 7987 • I am here at all hours – quite often at 6.00am until very late in the evenings

  7. CONTACTING US IN AN EMERGENCY • Internal phone – dial ’55’ • DO NOT DIAL ‘O’ – that will delay our response • Bell pay phones – Yellow button • Emergency intercoms throughout the building • Fennell Outside entrances and lots emergency phones with blue strobes

  8. CRIME PREVENTION • Most thefts are ‘crimes of opportunity’ • Best way to combat these thefts is to ‘deny the opportunity’ • Lock your car and put your valuables out of sight • Lock your valuables in the trunk

  9. CRIME PREVENTION • If you see something ‘out of the ordinary’ or think that ‘something is not quite right!’ • TRUST YOUR INSTINCT - what you see or feel is PROBABLY right • Call us, let us know, this may just be the ‘missing piece of our puzzle’

  10. EVACUATIONS • IF YOU HEAR THE FIRE ALARM IN YOUR WING YOU MUST: • FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN YOU BY THE FIRE WARDENS OR SECURITY OFFICERS • LEAVE THE WING BY THE NEAREST EMERGENCY EXIT

  11. EVACUATIONS • FIRE ALARMS ARE NON NEGOTIABLE • YOU DO NOT GO TO YOUR LOCKER TO GET YOUR BELONGINGS • YOU DO NOT GO TO ANOTHER WING FOR YOUR BOYFRIEND/GIRL FRIEND • YOU DO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL TIMES FROM SECURITY AND/OR FIRE WARDENS

  12. LOCK-DOWNS • Become necessary because of 2 distinct threat environments • An External Threat – College Business is conducted as usual but all entrances are locked to deny access into the building. You would be invited to remain within the building until such time the threat no longer exists

  13. LOCK DOWNS • An Internal threat – this is a situation where there is a DIRECT threat to the safety and well-being of the College Community such as a terrorist attack, hostage situation or an ACTIVE and ongoing Weapon related incident

  14. LOCK DOWNS • WARNINGS – will be activated by my people • It will consist of a broadcast message over the Campus Speaker System. • It will run for about three minutes or until we stop it!

  15. LOCK DOWNS On hearing the alarm, you need: to GET OUT of the PUBLIC AREAS like the hallways, open access, Library, Cafeterias and GO TO A PLACE OF SAFETY

  16. LOCK DOWNS • What is a place of safety? • In a nutshell it is anywhere you feel safe. A classroom, an office – anywhere you can close a door, turn off the lights, and be OUT OF SIGHT

  17. LOCK DOWNS • When inside the place of safety KEEP VERY VERY QUIET. • TURN OFF ALL CELL PHONES • Take a Roll call • REMAIN IN THE PLACE OF SAFETY UNTIL SECURITY OR POLICE TELL YOU TO COME OUT • You may be in that place of safety for a very long time

  18. CLOSING • We are here to help you, we want to keep you safe, your possessions and College possessions secure and we want to foster the safe working and learning environment we have here at the College

  19. CLOSING • Security does NOT start with College Security Services – it ENDS WITH US. • It ALWAYS starts with you • HELP US - HELP YOU!
