The Best Defense Ever? • The Saints had one of the best defenses in NFL history from 1987-1995. • It was named after the four linebackers • They went to the playoffs 4 times, and one was for the first time ever. • 2 of the top 20 all time pass rushers are Saints. • The cheer of Saints fans at the time was “BURY ‘Em DEEP” Dome Patrol

NFL network says: • The former players voted the Saints “Dome Patrol” as being the best group of linebackers ever. • They lead the league in least points against 2 years in a row in 1991 and 1992. • They were the first group of linebackers to all be voted to the starting allstar team. Bury ‘em Deep!

Rickey Jackson (LOLB) • Some say he was the greatest Saint ever. • He played the most games as a Saint. • He was the emotional leader of the team. • He is in the hall of fame. • He was a 6 time all star • He once played in a game in the same week he broke his face in a car wreck. • He lead the Saints in sacks and turnovers caused all time. 57

  9. Sam Mills (ILB) • He was a 5 time all star. • His nickname was “Mighty Mouse.” He was the smallest linebacker in the NFL. • He was the captain. • He called the plays and was called ‘the brains.” • He had 100 or more tackles 5 times. 51

  11. Pat Swilling (ROLB) • 5 time pro bowler • 2 time 1st team all NFL. • Lead the league in sacks once. • Was the defensive player of the year once. • Is 17th all time in sacks, making him one of the best pass rushers ever. 56

They had 27 out of 48 games with 10 points or fewer including 5 shutouts. • The 49ers were one of the best teams ever: and they couldn’t score much on the Saints. DomePatrol
