  3. LEAP 21 Achievement Levels • Advanced: Student has demonstrated superior performance. (ELA 82%, Math 84%) • Mastery: Student has demonstrated competency over challenging subject matter and is well prepared for the next level of schooling. (ELA 71%, Math 74%) • Basic: Student has demonstrated only the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling. (ELA 60%, Math 63%) • Approaching Basic: Student only partially demonstrated the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level for schooling. (ELA 53%, Math 56%) • Unsatisfactory: Student has not demonstrated the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling.

Writing and Math Constructed Response: March 18, 2014LEAP Spring Test: April 7th-10th Grade 4 Promotion Standards • Pass academically- On level in reading and math with a minimum D average and pass two other subjects • Attendance • Basic/Basic combination in LEAP 21 English Language Arts & Mathematics tests Did Not Meet Promotion Standards Summer School and Retest Mandatory for waivers or appeals Did Not Meet Promotion Standards Meets Promotion Standards Student Promoted to 5th Grade Student Repeats 4th Grade

English Language Arts Phase I - Writing (March 18th): • Composition (100 – 150 words) –Responding to 1-2 given passages • Proofreading - 8 Multiple Choice Items Phase II - Reading and Responding (April 7th): • 4 reading selections (fiction, nonfiction, and poetry) • 20 Multiple Choice Items • 8 Short Answer Items Phase II - Information Resources (April 7th): • 4-6 References (articles, parts of a book, visual aids, computer information) • 5 Multiple Choice Items • 2 Short Answer Items

Parents’ Role in LEAP Preparation •ENCOURAGE your child. •Provide a study spot with a dictionary, thesaurus, ruler, and calculator. •Read silently and orally with your child. •Check written responses. •Check explanations of math problems. •Emphasize importance of listening, participating, and cooperating with the teacher. •Hold your child accountable for LEAP practice materials, activities, and homework. •MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD IS HERE AND ON TIME EVERYDAY!
