  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: MBANS Europe Status Date Submitted: Jan 17, 2012 Source: Raymond Krasinski, Philips 345 Scarborough Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510 Voice: 1-914-333-9687, FAX: 1-914-332-0615, E-Mail: raymond.krasinski@philips.com Abstract: Report on the status of MBAN standardization in Europe Purpose: Provide a status update on MBAN standardization in Europe. 2. MBANS Update European Status Jan 17, 2012 Raymond Krasinski, Philips

  3. Jan 2012 Standards Efforts in the EU • Two organizations are looking into MBANS • ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), one of the European SDO’s officially recognized by the European Union (27 countries) • ECC (Electronics Communications Committee) is one of the CEPT committees and brings together 48 countries to develop common policies and regulations in electronic communications and related applications for Europe, and to provide the focal point for information on spectrum use. ECC takes an active role at the international level, preparing common European proposals to represent European interests in the ITU and other international organizations Slide 3 Raymond Krasinski, Philips

  4. ETSI TR 101 557 approved • ETSI ERM (EMC and Radio spectrum Matters) approved the System Reference document (Srdoc) on Medical Body Area Network Systems for publication and sent it to ECC WG Frequency Management (WG FM) • In accordance with the MoU between ETSI and ECC, ETSI ERM proposed that ECC considers the Srdoc ETSI TR 101 557, which includes necessary information for developing spectrum regulation for MBANSs. • A basis for regulation for license exempt operation of Medical Body Area Network Systems is requested in, for example, a new annex of ERC Recommendation 70-03 as a specific SRD application. Raymond Krasinski, Philips

  5. Progress in CEPT/ECC • WG FM requested ECC WG Spectrum Engineering (WG SE) to start MBANS compatibility studies for the following frequency bands: • 2400-2483.5 MHz • 2483.5-2500 MHz • 2360-2400 MHz • WG SE24 started the work on compatibility studies in line with the WG FM request • Javier Espina (Philips) is the rapporteur for the ECC report on MBANS compatibility • A first draft was discussed at the SE24 meeting in December, the work is expected to take the whole of 2012 • ECC report will form the basis for future regulation decision in ECC WG FM Raymond Krasinski, Philips
