  2. In Katowice, as well as across thecountry in connection with the aging of the population can be seen a steady increase persons aged over 60 years oldin the social structure. It is a prerequisite that special attentionshould be focus on developing system actions for elderly residents.

The Social Welfare Centre in Katowiceworks in this area by interalia: • specialistcounseling • sheltered housing   • familynursinghome • the implementation of the Program „Sunflower” with volunteers • the implementation of the Program „The joy of life–I can everything” • applying for EU funds for the project of support for theelderlyand their caregivers

The Program „Sunflower” • The target groups are residents of Katowice, whom are in a difficult situation,including inter alia: the elderly and the disabled who require support from the Social Welfare Centre in Katowice. • The implementation of the program relies on volunteers participating in the daily life of older people through common: • - spending time eg. reading , talking, walking,   • - exit to the doctor and small purchases, • - erranding official matters.

"RADOŚĆ ŻYCIA - wszystko mogę" • MAIN AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME : • - improving the functional capacity of people aged 50+, • - improving the quality and standard of living of the group members, • - creating a new ways of spending leisure time, • - acquisition of new skills, • - intergenerational integration, changing relationships through the organization of integration events, • - creating conditions for self-realization through participation in the group.

  13. Reinforcementthe support system for the elderly and their family environment The aims of the programme : • Social integration of the elderly living in the city of Katowice and promote the idea of ​​active and healthy aging. • Extension the offer’s of assistance for the elderly .
