A home with well-dressed windows not only looks better and has a better feeling when you are in those rooms, but they are there for function too. You might live in a noisy neighbourhood, work nights and need to block light in the day, want to control how light comes in, add a privacy option and more. Not all window treatments are really complicated and super expensive. To know which ones would work best for your style, needs, and the home you have here is an outline of some of the basic options and few DIY options too including DIY blackout blinds. Some of the basic treatments people use - In no particular order you have;
Curtains – Made from a variety of fabrics they hang from ties or rings hanging over a rod above the window. You pull them open to let in the light in the day and draw them at night for privacy. They come in a range of styles, colours, can be lighter or heavier, casual or formal and work on any sized window in any room. Curtains are also great because they come at a good range of prices too. Blinds – Are made from a variety of materials though commonly faux wood, real wood or vinyl and are great for having more control over the light and privacy you want. You can have blinds along with other treatments or have them alone. There are DIY Venetian blinds as well as others. Drapery panels – If you are wanting a more formal look but something similar to curtains you might choose to have drapes. These open and close with a cord not by hand and can hang from the top of windows or even run from the ceiling and hang down to the floor.
Shades – are great when your priority is blocking light and having the best privacy. There are several different styles of shades, balloon shades, Roman shades, roller shades and more. Valances – Hang at the top of the window and hang just a little way down as a decorative feature. DIY window treatment options If you are happy for a more informal look, there are plenty of things you can do yourself for your windows including even something like DIY blackout blinds. If you have the crafting skill and time you can also create something more formal, it just takes more fabrics, patterns and sewing know-how. Some easy ideas are;
Add some extra personality to store-bought options by sewing on bows, ribbons, tassels, beads, cording and so on to add embellishment. • Buy some wooden blinds and paint them either a more vibrant colour or something you come up with yourself. • Get some material and put your sewing skills to the test and make some cafe curtains.
