  1. ADO-PO section meeting ADO : Atlas Detector Operation PO : Project Office R. Vuillermet

  2. Content of the meeting • Engineering activity in the design office for 2011 (Raphael) • Technical support activities (Michel) • Safety activities (Olga) R. Vuillermet

  3. Cars reduction cost • Currently in the section we have the following cars : • 3729 in building 26 • 3549 in building 582 • 3116 in building 108 • 2793 in building 108 • 3049 in building 108 • 3346 at point 1 • Each car cost 3.300 CHF/year, for 6 cars it is a budget of 19.800 CHF/year paid by the group. • The group leader ask us to make an effort in reducing this budget • Proposal is to keep 3 cars • 3729 in building 26 • 3549 in building 582 • 3116 in building 108 • 2793 in building 108 • 3049 in building 108 • 3346 at point 1 • How to compensation • During shut down period we can hire more cars for shift activities and for outside reinforcement teams • During the year we propose to use • Atlas pool cars (at point 1)  contact C. Potter • Hertz Pool cars (for building 26 and 108)  every body with CERN car authorisation (EDH request is mandatory with a scan of your driving licence) will receive a access card.  contact H. Poirel • For emergency need, PH service can loan a car for maximum ½ day for free )  contact S. Yebbou • To share the work shop (108) cars with PH/DT, agreed with Hans Danielson – (4 cars and 1 truck available) • To use bicycles, (2 available at build 26/602)  contact S. Yebbou R. Vuillermet

  4. 2011 Design office activities • 3 main activities • Provide the technical and engineering support for the ATLAS technical coordination • Provide the technical support for operation task • Provide engineering support for upgrade activities development • Current resources in the design office : • Tatiana • Gevorg • Denis • Alexander • Giancarlo • Erik • Sebastien • Wim • Marco • Dimitar • Raphael R. Vuillermet

  5. 1- Engineering support for ATLAS TC • JFC1 lifting tool (Denis & Dimitar) • The purpose of this tool is to install/remove the JFC1 shielding faster than currently. • The consequence would be • a time saving in the schedule • a activation dose saving for the operation • a minimisation of risk by less crane operation • The design is currently under progress to check the feasibility. • Production of such a tool will be subcontracted R. Vuillermet

  6. 1- Engineering support for ATLAS TC • ECT top platform (Wim) • Purpose of the job : • Preparation of production drawings and technical specification for the fabrication of an additional ECT top platform. • The design is based on the existing ECT top platform. This platform will be a duplication of the existing one to be able to have access on both side of the experiment in the future. R. Vuillermet

  7. 1- Engineering support for ATLAS TC • Define access path inside the toroid following the installation of EE Chambers – (Alexander, Tatiana, Michel, Giancarlo, Olga) • Purpose of the job : • Organise the access platform required to allow the correct access inside the toroid and the correct emergency exit according to safety recommendation. R. Vuillermet

  8. 1- Engineering support for ATLAS TC • EES installation (Alexander, Erik, Giancarlo) • Purpose of the job : • Design the necessary tooling and access for the installation of EE chamber • Prepare the detailed installation sequence with the management of the access platform R. Vuillermet

  9. 1- Engineering support for ATLAS TC • Big Wheel Basket (Alexander, Dimitar, Raphael) • Purpose of the job : • Design access means to change TGC chambers on TGC wheels • This access means should be able to inserted in between 2 Big Wheels when separated. • Demonstrate the feasibility of such an access, design and prepare production drawings. R. Vuillermet

  10. 1- Engineering support for ATLAS TC • CAD model organisation • Finish the creation of simplified and detailed models of the following items, position them into the ATLAS coordinate system (under the supervision of Tatiana) • Warm structure (Denis) • HS structures (Denis) • Muon chambers and muon alignment system (Gevorg, Wim) • End Cap Calorimeter (Denis) • Services, gas piping, racks at Z=0 (Denis) • Big Wheels models (Alexander, Erik) • HF truck (Gevorg) • Access bridge and scaffolding (Gevorg) • With simplified model create the ATLAS assembly for presentation and representation (Tatiana, Denis) • All this Engineering support will represent about 40% of our working time R. Vuillermet

  11. 2- Technical support for operation task • Participation to the winter opening/closing • Provide supervision manpower (Dimitar, Giancarlo, Raphael) • Participation to the operation services (all personal) • Safety shifts • Alara shifts • Participation to the technical stop • Patrol (all personal) • Participation to the yearly operation of the detector when needed • Slimos (Tatiana, Marco, Sebastien, Giancarlo, Dimitar, Raphael) • RPE (Giancarlo) • All this operation task activities are estimated to represent about 15% of the design office activities. R. Vuillermet

  12. 3- Upgrade activities • Small Wheel – new concept (Alexander, Tatiana, Giancarlo Spigo) • Purpose of the job : • Prepare supporting concept of the new muon chambers • Prepare new shielding disk concept • Work in partnership with the muon community and shielding expert. • A new small wheel is not foreseen before upgrade phase II R. Vuillermet

  13. 3- Upgrade activities • nSQP (Sebastien, Erik) • Purpose of the job : • Design the new service quarter panel • Integrate the services routing inside the nSQP • Design and integrate the new optobox • Integrate the services on the face of the Inner Detector R. Vuillermet

  14. 3- Upgrade activities • IBL mock-up construction and exploitation (Francisco, Louis, Marco, Erik, Raphael) • Purpose of the job : • Assemble a scale one mock-up for testing the extraction/insertion tooling and procedures. (under good progress) • Operate the tooling, propose modification and/or develop new concept. • Test the tooling and the procedure • Demonstrate by the end of the year the feasibility of such an operation R. Vuillermet

  15. 3- Upgrade activities • Shielding (Marco, Tatiana, Olga) • Purpose of the job : • Add additional layers of shielding on : • HO face of ECT • USA 15 wall R. Vuillermet

  16. 3- Upgrade activities • IBL integration activity (Raphael, Franck Cadoux UniGe) • Purpose of the job : • Coordination of the integration of the IBL package (Christophe Bault, Didier Laporte LPNHE) • Coordination of the tooling development (LPSC, Brandeis, Washington, Erik) • Coordination of the service routing integration (Erik, Tatiana, Alexander, Bart, Jan) • The upgrade activity will represent about 45% of our working time R. Vuillermet

  17. LCD activities • Integration of the tail catcher on the tungsten absorber (Erik) • Purpose of the job : • Design, integrate and follow the construction of the installation of the tail catcher on to the tungsten absorber. • Pixel detector layout (Erik) • Purpose of the job : • Provide drawings of the pixel detector layout, including first sketches of suspension, service routing and cooling principles. R. Vuillermet
