Training at the Interface of the Behavioral Sciences and Biology (T32)

This program aims to provide interdisciplinary training at the interface of behavioral and biological sciences, integrating perspectives, approaches, and methodologies. It will focus on students with a behavioral background and require co-mentoring by faculty from both sides of the interface. Funding will be provided in the first year, with contributions from other NIH institutes/centers.

NAGMS Concept Clearance for Training at the Interface of the Behavioral Sciences and Biology (T32) • Sept 2005 Council – Dr. Berg presented update on plans to develop new interdisciplinary predoctoral training program at interface of behavior and biology • Background: NAS and NIH reports identified need for training future scientists in basic behavioral science that is not targeted but is fundamental to a range of diseases and health conditions • Plan: introduce new NIGMS T32 program to integrate training in basic behavioral research with rigorous training in biology and the biomedical sciences

Training at the Interface of the Behavioral Sciences and Biology (T32) • Features: • Interdisciplinary training that integrates both behavioral and biological perspectives, approaches and methodologies • Focus on students with behavioral background, to provide rigorous training in biology/biomedical sciences • Require leadership and faculty from both sides of interface, multi-departmental • Require co-mentoring of trainees by faculty from both sides
