  10. Part II Cross the Channel After the battle of Hastings, England has never been successfully invaded though many have tried. The English Channel provides a natural barrier but it also has separated England from the rest of the world. So in the last couple of centuries, schemes have been proposed to connect England and the Europe continent across the Channel.
