Kindergarten • Susan Weber, from Young Audiences • February 16, 2012 • Susan came to each classroom and did interactive storytelling activities with two books • Turtle Knows Your Name (West Indies) • Sylvester, The Mouse With The Musical Ear (USA) • This visit supported the “How we express ourselves” theme whose central idea is “Exploring and responding to literature helps people discover and express ideas and feelings.”
Susan Weber focused on these ideas: • story elements (sequencing, characters, setting) • people discover feelings and ideas when they listen to and respond to literature • there are different ways to tell a story (with a book, without a book, with puppets and props, with movement and music) • we use our body, voice and imagination to tell a story
First Grade • Jimmie Woody, from Young Audiences • March, 2012 • Jimmie came to each classroom and did interactive theater activities: • Working on facial expression • Body movement • Annunciation • Using the body to show emotion • Mr. Woody’s visit supported the “How we express ourselves” theme whose central idea is “Literature informs, unites, and entertains individuals and groups.”
Second grade Amanda Powell April 13, 2012 Songwriting workshops This supported the 2nd grade unit of inquiry, “How we express ourselves,” whose central idea is “Artists express their feelings which causes others to react in their own ways.”

Third Grade Kevin Maury January 30, 2012 The students worked with Kevin Maury, a Fernway parent. Ultimately, they made a collaborative mural collage of their favorite characters. This supported the third graders’ fourth unit of inquiry, “How we express ourselves,” whose central idea is “Authors and illustrators communicate ideas by using a variety of techniques and styles.”
Workshops First, in classroom workshops, Kevin talked about the way an author’s descriptive language helps illustrators figure out what characters look like. He told the students that they would be using their knowledge of favorite texts to draw their favorite character.
Workshops Mrs. M-C supported this project by coming into each third grade class so that she could review: -proportions of the face -how to add color to drawings effectively She also helped some student who had super-hard characters to draw.

Fourth grade Susan Weber January 20, 2012 Buckeye Picnic --Assembly for grades 2-4 focusing on Ohio History Workshops for the 4th grade classes This day supported the 4th grade unit of inquiry, “Where we are in place and time,” whose central idea is “People immigrate and migrate because of challenges and opportunities”
Assembly for grades 2-4 Susan talked about effective story telling techniques as she “became” historical figures : Tecumseh An Italian immigrant who worked on the canals Harriet Tubman William Proctor, of Proctor and Gamble
4th grade workshops The students practiced using different forms of expression then learned about the four factors of production – which is a state standard.
