  1. Mapping of SET-Plan Projects An Update

  2. Aim of Project Mapping The Mapping of projects relevant to the SET-Plan was mandated by the Steering Group in October 2010 to: • Prioritise future efforts • Leverage on-going developments and knowledge at EU level • Facilitate joint programming

  3. Updated up to 25th October Total questionnaires received: 262 , budget: 5785 M€ Geographical coverage: 18 EU MSs + NO, IS and CH Increasing engagement: First submissions from FR and NL DE submission “Forschungsjahrbuch Erneuerbare Energien 2010”, but information does not contain all questionnaire fields DK contributed a large number (62) of (smaller) projects Analysis is ongoing The filled in questionnaires are now online: http://setis.ec.europa.eu/activities/project-mapping Current state

  4. Number of projectsreceived per EII - total: 262

  5. Budget of projects received per EII – total: 5785 M€

  6. Number of projects per country total: 262 projects

  7. Budget per country total: 5785 M€

  8. SET-Plan Project Mapping Responses – Wind(excl. FP6/7 projects) • 1 project (Slovakia) is combined wind, solar & bioenergy. • 2 projects (Greece & Portugal) are combined wind, solar & grids. • The total budgets of these projects are equality divided among the technologies engaged. • 26 out of the 44 Danish projects & 9 out of the 14 Swedish projects are with the budget below the threshold (1M€) • Total budgets in wind is not changed significantly due to the small contribution of the new projects.

  9. Wind projects: Split per EII –IP activity

  10. SET-Plan Project Mapping Responses – Bioenergy (excl. FP6/7 projects) • 4 projects (Spain) are combined bioenergy & CCS. • 1 project (Norway) is combined bioenergy & FCH2. • 2 projects (Slovakia) are combined bioenergy & solar. • 1 project (Slovakia) is combined bioenergy, solar & wind. • The total budgets of these projects are equality divided among the technologies engaged.

  11. Bioenergy Project Mapping: Split per EII IP activity • The classification presented here has been slightly changed & adapted from the implementation plan, which only involves activities in demonstration and flagship plants. • The total adds up to more than the total number of projects (41), because several projects are related to multiple activities in the implementation plan, hence these projects are counted more than once.

  12. SET-Plan Project Mapping Responses – CCS (excl. FP6/7 projects) • 4 projects (Spain) are combined CCS & bioenergy. 50% of their total budgets is allocated to CCS • 1 project (Finland) deals with the whole CO2 chain (capture/transport/storage)

  13. CCS Project Mapping: Split per EII IP activity * The total adds up to more than the total number of projects (27), because several projects are related to multiple activities in the implementation plan, hence these projects are counted more than once.

  14. SET-Plan Project Mapping Responses – FCH2 (excl. FP6/7 projects) * 1 projects (Norway) is combined FCH2 & bioenergy. 50% of its total budget is allocated to FCH2.

  15. SET-Plan Project Mapping Responses – Solar (excl. FP6/7 projects) • 2 projects (Slovakia) are combined solar & bioenergy. • 1 project (Belgium) is combined solar & grids. • 1 project (Slovakia) is combined solar, bioenergy & wind. • 2 projects (Greece & Portugal) are combined solar, wind & grids. • The total budgets of these projects are equality divided among the technologies engaged. We have now info on ~ 40 projects from DE

  16. Solar Project Mapping: Split per EII IP activity

  17. SET-Plan Project Mapping Responses – Grids (excl. FP6/7 projects) • 2 projects (EL + PT) are combined Wind-Solar-Grids. 33% of each budget is allocated to Grids. • 1 project (BE) is combined Wind-Grids. 50% of the budget is allocated to Grids.

  18. Number of Grid projects split per activity and country (1)

  19. Numberof Grid projects split per activityand per country (2)

  20. Ongoing efforts in EGII projects mapping • Distribution projects (AIT-Austria Institute of Technology) • Collection of information on national Distribution projects (240) • Transmission projects (ENTSOE) • Collection of information on Transmission projects (40) • JRC Smart Grid Pilot Projects Catalogue: • Collection of information on Smart Grid pilot projects (260) • Projects mapped according to Smart Grid functionalities (EPRI methodology)

  21. SET-Plan Project Mapping Responses – Nuclear (excl. FP6/7 projects*) * MYRRHA (FR) and ASTRID (BE) projects have been included since FP7 contribution is minor ** SUSEN project has been approved by national government, but approval by EC is pending

  22. ESNII Project Mapping: Split per ESNII IP activity * The total adds up to more than the total number of projects (8), because several projects are related to multiple activities in the implementation plan, hence these projects are counted more than once.

  23. Mapping of SET-Plan Projects The way forward

  24. Formalisation of the role of actors Sherpas, SG National POs EC POs SETIS distribute questionnaire Sherpas data/ information, analysis EII Teams data/ information input SETIS

  25. Development of a new questionnaire Rationale: A simplified questionnaire was requested by the Steering Group in the last meeting Better identify synergies & gaps between the EIIs Implementation Plans & National projects Extract information in a more efficient way Simplify input and reduce workload of reporting actors Facilitate analysis for purpose by SETIS

  26. New questionnaire/tool Online (SETIS website) implementation: Registration system with username and password Multiple choices possible Tick-off related priority activities and KPIs in the relevant EII implementation plans (via drop-down menus) User can extract information from the project database Registered users receive alerts when new projects added Available by end November 2011
