How can QUArk Tools HELP the hscic ? • The business of the hscic is INFORMATION • QUAlityinformation is derived from QUAlityDATA • ANSWER : A key feature of ALL dashboards builtby the QUArk NHS England Indicator Tool is the exposure and functionality to assist with the analysis of data quality issues • Dashboards handle both STANDARD (generic) and SPECIFIC (user specified) data quality (DQ) issues • Dashboards can focus on only records with DQ issues either with a view or a user specified colour • The QUArk data model reflects the new / transitioned NHS structure OUT go: SHAs, PCTs IN come: NHS England (& regions), CCGs, Locations + Primary and Social Care

Why NHS clinicians and NHS management need tools … • Because of the increasing scope and complexity of available data • Because of the increasing cost of resource (both in terms of people and time) required to develop useful reports • Because of increasing expectations from patients, service users and people (both in terms of quality and time) • QUark generated dashboards recognize the importance of displaying up to date (UTD) information, ultimately this will be determined by how quickly the data is captured and entered by NHS professionals) The QUark Indicator Tool for NHS England can generate an unlimited number of dashboards …

The STORY : the hscic help healthcare providers to improve data quality … • There is significant variation in the quality of data captured by computer systems supplied to the NHS and subsequently submitted by providers to the hscic (this is largely due to historic reasons) • The following screen shots are taken from a dashboard generated by the QUArk Indicator Tool for NHS England • The data is made up of: • Sample health integrated pathways (hips) • sample person physical and mental health activity (e.g. admissions, cluster assignment) • an NHS organisation structure which is made up of both real and sample data BUT reflects the new / transitioned structure

The dashboard is made up of 3 DQ indicators: INValid Date of Birth (DQM01); INValid Cluster (DQM02); INValid Treatment Function (DQM03) plus an indicator for the active number of patients, service users and people receiving social care in England … select the indicator DQM03 (INValid Treatment Function)

  7. The Data Set tab provides the detail … Hospital, Team Type/Code available but not person identifiable data – individual trusts will need to use QUArk Indicator Tool for providers to further analyse to identify specific hips where data quality issues exist …

  9. Trend Line graph shows how many people have one or more open referrals Yellow dot shows selected period …

  10. DQ Analysis: Dashboard can show ONLY records with DQ Issues or select by Issue Type

  11. Dashboards alone will NOT improve efficiency • Efficient USE of efficient dashboards WILL improve efficiency • QUArk Tools build efficient dashboards: • STRONG data model (TEAM based) • RICH functionality (healthpathway/timeline) • HI performance (user interface response times)
