  1. What do we do when here?

  2. Thesis Our goal on earth is to go through a journey of enlightenment. One has an aspiration or goal which they work towards throughout their whole life, whether they know it or not. Man is on earth to experience an epiphany of enlightenment.

  3. Journey to God “Oh sweeter than the marriage-feast…To walk together to the kirk, And all together pray, While each to his great Father bends, Old men, and babes and loving friends, And youths and Maidens gay!” –Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner The Mariner is saying that everyone that is touched by god is shaped by him and it can be a much happier thing than anything else.

  4. “The Mariner, whose ey is bright, Whose beard with age is hoar, Is gone; and now the Wedding-Guest Turned from the bridegroom’s door. He went like one that hath been stunned, And is of sense forlorn: A sadder and a wiser man He rose the morrow morn” –The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner This shows the end of his journey and how his eyes are no bright because he has fullfilled his life propecy, which he aided in starting someone elses journey through his tale.

  5. Journey to Freedom “Macomber felt a wild unreasonable happiness that he had never known before… ‘You know something did happen to me,’ he said ‘I feel absolutely different.’”-The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber This is an example of how he reaches his freedom and feels the change becomes a happier man because of it. However, once he reaches this state of all knowing that his life has pushed him towards, he dies and his tale ends because he finished his task.

  6. “Looking back, saw his wife, with the rifle by her side, looking at him. He waved to her and she did not wave back.” -The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber Not only does Macomber reach his goal, but so does his wife. She sees her oppurtunity to take the freedom she wants from the marriage she is in and become a widow. Her story still ends as a new one begins with her finished task.

  7. Journey for Knowledge “ In the middle of the journey of our life, I came to myself in a dark wood, for the straight way was lost.”– The Inferno This first line of the Inferno tells of how during his journey to knowledge he lost his way. This is hidden under the religious overlay, but he is truly their to learn more of the ways of the after life.

  8. “ We have come to the place where I told you you will see the grieving peoples who have lost the good of the intellect.” And, putting his hand on mine with a cheerful glance from which I drew strength, he introduced me into the secret things.”–The Inferno The beginning of the journey shows that it won’t be easy but he is told that he must recover the intellect others have lost and learn the secret things. These desires become well known as he pushed through the inferno to learn of the punishment of sins.

  9. Final Word • Everyone goes through some type of journey whether religious or political. Once one have achieved the enlightenment, one becomes fulfilled and we either die or go into a state of neutral bliss.
