  4. In the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude

  5. In the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • Our conversation gets enriched when everyone is focusing on the people who are speaking to one another. • One challenge to that focus is when people are walking around the room, standing up at their place, kneeling on their chairs, etc. • Therefore, if you would like to stand up for any reason, please ask for Fr. Folan’s permission and wait for it to be granted.

  6. In the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • Our conversation gets enriched when everyone is present in the classroom for the duration of our class. • When students use the restroom, they are not present in the classroom. • Therefore, please use the restroom during your break in between classes. If you must use the restroom during class, it will be because it is an emergency, and you should return quickly.

  7. In the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • Our conversation gets enriched when one person in the classroom speaks and everyone else listens attentively. • When multiple people are speaking at the same time, not only is our conversation not enriched, it is impoverished. • Therefore, if you wish to speak, raise your hand, and wait for Fr. Folan to invite you to speak. Whenever a student is speaking, no other student will raise his/her hand.

  8. In the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • Our conversation gets enriched when everyone is listening and actively remembering what is being said. • Because our conversation will be so rich, it will be impossible to remember everything we say. • Therefore, every student will take careful notes, based on what Fr. Folan and the other members of the class say.

  9. In the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • Our conversation gets enriched when students are taking notes responsibly. • Those who write with pencils cannot take notes responsibly if those pencils have dull or no points. • Therefore, if any student wishes to take notes with a pencil, h/she will have at least two sharpened pencils at the start of class.

  10. 1. Work hard, play fair • If you would like to stand up for any reason, please ask for Fr. 11. Homework • Review the five rules upon which we agreed. • If you have any amendments you would like me to consider for them, please think of them by the start of class on Thursday. By the end of class on Thursday, our rules will become the main clauses in our classroom contract for the year.

  12. Outside the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude

  13. Outside the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • Our conversation gets enriched when students are completing all of their homework. • Fr. Folan posts homework assignments regularly on the class’s webpage. • Therefore, each student will check the class’s webpage each day for homework assignments.

  14. Outside the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • In order to complete most homework assignments, students will need to read some piece(s) of text. • Reading takes time, attention, and the proper books. • Therefore, all students will devote an appropriate amount of time to their religion reading whenever any is assigned.

  15. Outside the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • As good as it is to read, sometimes the material is long or difficult enough to make remembering all of it. • Taking notes as one reads helps one remember what happens in the text and recall what questions arose while reading. • Therefore, students will take notes, to the extent they are helpful, as they are reading religion assignments.

  16. Outside the classroom… 1. Work hard, play fair 2. Be respectful 3. Keep a positive attitude • Reading often raises questions, confusions, disagreements, etc. • Taking the time to think about these things allows one to engage in class conversations at a high level. • Therefore, all students will think about what they read in religion assignments, paying special attention to anything that is confusing, difficult, or disagreeable.
