  4. What are the challenges? NC STATE UNIVERSITY • This is an exciting time, but it can also be stressful! • Students may face several challenges • Social • Cultural • Academic • Psychological • If someone with no experience in your country moved into your home, what advice and support would you give them?

  5. Tips for adjustment NC STATE UNIVERSITY • The 1styear is most important! • Give yourself time to adjust to all the changes. • Seek out international students you relate to. • Seek out relationships with American students. • Become involved in the NCSU or local community. • Use the resources that are available to you. • Do not be afraid to ask questions! • Remember that you are part of the NCSU family now and there are staff/faculty/students here that CARE ABOUT YOU!

  6. How can the counseling center help? NC STATE UNIVERSITY • Counselor = mentor, ally, expert • We can support you by answering your questions and/or helping you find resources • We can help you become a successful student • We can help you with feelings of loneliness, depression, or anxiety • We can help you build positive relationships with other students, staff, and faculty • We can provide you with a private relationship to talk with another person

International students use the counseling center for… NC STATE UNIVERSITY • For academic concerns/challenges • To help with student and faculty relationships • To talk about missing their home • To help them find resources • To receive support when they need it • When they are distressed • When they feel anxious, depressed, lack confidence, etc.
