  1. NEAREST WP7 Modelling of tsunami impact in SW Portugal FFCUL Rachid Omira Maria Ana Baptista Miguel Miranda Elarbi Toto Brest April 2009

  2. WP7.1 Collation of the new Bathymetric Data (merge data not complete) WP7 Modelling of tsunami impact in SW Portugal WP7.2 Implementation of a Numerical Tsunami Model for SW Portugal WP7.3 Simulation of the 1755 tsunami in the “Boca do Rio” area WP7.4 Production of Inundation Maps for Lagos-Sagres WP7.5 Model Parametrization and Validation

  3. WP7 Modelling of tsunami impact in test areas Miranda JM, Baptista MA, Terrinha P, Matias, L. 31st ESC Crete Sept 2009

  4. Initial displacements using discretized slip distribution (SCC (Geist & Domovska ,1999)) Initial sea surface perturbation for each tsunami scenario in the Gulf of Cadiz; (a) Gorring Bank scenario, (b) Marques de Pombal scenario, (c) Horseshoe scenario, (d) Portimao Bank scenario, (e) Cadiz scenario.

  5. Horseshoe Scenario

  6. Cadiz Scenario Lagos

  7. Marques de Pombal Scenario

  8. CONTRIBUTION TO IOC-NEAMTWS Design of a Tsunami Detection Network in the Gulf of Cadiz R. Omira, M. A. Baptista, L. Matias , J. M. Miranda, C. Catita, F. Carrilho, E. Toto

  9. Computed tsunami maximum wave height and travel time for different earthquake scenarios in the Gulf of Cadiz.

  10. Tide guages Network in the Gulf of Cadiz zone Map displaying: MWH along the Gulf of Cadiz coasts considering all the tsunamigenic scenarios, existing and 4 additional tide gauge stations (TG1 to TG4 in red dots) recommended for the region.

  11. Tsunameters design for the Gulf of Cadiz region The study adopts a specific strategy for tsunameter installation based upon three main criteria: (i) maximization of warning time, (ii)coverage of all the area where tsunami can be detected and (iii) the conditions of installation: flat bottom topography and a “safe” distance from the seismic source for station location Established tunameters monitoring network for the Gulf of Cadiz region. White stars are the recommended positions for DART-like sensors in the area. Graphs illustrate waveforms recorded by the proposed DART-like network; only waves detected in the time interval of 0 -10 minutes after the tsunami occurrence are considered.

  12. Computed TAT to the proposed tsunameters (DART1, DART2 and DART3) and to different points along the Gulf of Cadiz coasts

  13. Warning time considering the proposed tsunameters design Warning Time along the coasts in Portugal, Spain and Morocco, considering that the 3 DART systems proposed are available (red dots)
