  10. Advantages Observed • PSAPs will answer the next generation of mobile wireless and nomadic VoIP callers by using NG9-1-1. • E9-1-1 is not dependent upon North American Numbering Plan (NANP) resources and Rate Center Number resources; rather, IP addresses, alias locations, and names (IPV6) can all be routed, reducing misroutes and call transfers. • Translation: Phones from New York who are calling in your jurisdiction will ring your PSAP, with the correct address or longitude-latitude in your jurisdiction. By the same token, callers with Boulder phone numbers ringing 9-1-1 in New York will reach New York Metro, with the correct address for their NY Metro ESN location. To serve callers, Location matters, not telephone#. • PSAP jurisdictions can be covered fully and accurately using shape files -Parks, Lakes, RR, PBX stations, highways, and monuments will all be covered using shape files. • PSAPs can control and move their traffic quickly and efficiently • Backup routes can be expanded regionally or nationally if necessary • Next Gen callers become “normal” traffic, rather than problem situations

  11. Pitfalls & False Assumptions • NG 9-1-1 is an “all or nothing” experience. (F) • I have to use the public internet, which is notoriously unreliable and not secure. (F) • I have to give up my Professional Services E9-1-1 Administrator or Network Provider to move to Next Generation 9-1-1. (F) • I will no longer be able to control my traffic, as spammers will hit me with denial-of-service attacks, at all hours. (F) • I may have to transfer a citizen from my jurisdiction to the NY Metro PSAP because they forgot to register their temporary location on their “soft phone” to their New York hotel before calling 9-1-1. (T)

  12. What is just over the Horizon? • Start by creating your shape files: talk to VIXXI Sales ….talk to your peers…..
