  1. Premature Atrial Contractions (PACs) Premature Atrial Contractions also know as Premature Atrial Complexes are caused by abnormal electrical activity (premature beat) in the upper two chambers of the heart

  2. Premature Atrial Contractions (PACs) PACs occur in normal healthy individuals without any evidence of heart disease. In the minority of cases, PACs can be a sign of underlying heart condition in the atrium associated with hypertension or a defect in one of the heart valves

  3. Premature Atrial Contractions (PACs) Patients describe PAC as a feeling of "palpitation" or "skipped beat”. Individuals with frequent PACs may experience a fluttering sensation in the chest or neck. Individual may also experience weakness, dizziness or fainting.

  4. Premature Atrial Contractions (PACs) Almost everyone has PACs at some time, incidence of PACs increase with age. PAC is most common in older people who have heart disease and occurs once per 24 hours in 99% of people over 50 years of age

  5. Premature Atrial Contractions (PACs) Stress or stimulants such as tea, coffee, or alcohol can increase the frequency of PACs . PAC can be controlled by eliminating risk factors such as caffeine, tobacco and alcohol intake and by reducing stress and anxiety

  6. Premature Atrial Contractions (PACs) Beta blocker or Calcium blocker medication may be prescribed for patients with PACs PAC can be diagnosed by clinical exam, ECG and Holter monitoring
