  2. DO’S AND DON’T’S OF BODY PIERCING Body piercing is not a permanent procedure like a tattoo but before going for one it is advisable to have adequate knowledge about the different types, their healing rates and what kind of body jewelry is suitable for various types of piercings. Kinds of Piercings: Ear piercings: This category includes helix orbital, rook, anti-tragus and tragus, scaffold, conch orbital and conch, daith, anti-helix or lobe piercings among which the safest and the fastest rate of healing is that of lobe piercing. Facial Piercings: Some of the facial piercings are superficial while others pierce through the nasal passage or mouth. This category includes piercings on the bridge of the nose, cheek, septum , Monroe, nostrils, philtrum , lips and eyebrows. Oral Piercings: These piercings do not take a long time to heal provided the person is a non-smoker but these are very painful by nature. These include the piercings of the frenulum, tongue, scrumper and frowny. Tongue piercing by far is the most painful one as there are free nerve-endings in the tongue. Surface Piercings: The various parts of a body differ in the healing rate and there even may be a risk of migration or rejection. This category includes piercings on the belly button, nape, Madison and nipples. Nipples are a sensitive area of the body and any piercings on this part takes about six months or more.

  3. DO’S AND DON’T’S OF BODY PIERCING Aftercare Instructions for Piercings: • First and foremost if a person interested in body piercings is suffering from any kind of medical condition or allergies, he or she should consult a doctor for his suggestions and approval on undergoing the piercing. • Clean the body piercing area once daily. Frequent cleaning disrupts the process of healing. • Soak the area with sea salt water to accelerate the rate of healing and increase comfort. The optimum concentration of solution should be one fourth teaspoon of sea salt dissolved in one cup or 8 oz. of warm water. • Never touch the pierced areas with dirty hands to prevent the area from getting contaminated with germs. Use an antibacterial soap or hand sanitizing gel for touching the affected area. It is mandatory to follow the aftercare instructions for tattoos, all types of piercings of the body and even for permanent makeup piercing, for more effective healing and better results.
