  1. Application Problems EQ: How do I solve application problems using right triangle trigonometry? Step 1: Draw and label a right triangle to represent the problem situation Step 2: Determine which trig function is needed to solve the problem Step 3: Substitute the known values and solve for the unknown side or angle

  2. Definitions: • Angle of Depression: an angle that starts at the top and goes down • Angle of Elevation: an angle that starts at the bottom and goes up

  3. # 1 A ladder reaches a window 10 ft. above the ground. The ladder is 15 ft. long. How far is the foot of the ladder from the building?

  4. # 2 A staircase is 3.5 meters higher than the bottom. Viewed from the side, the horizontal length is 4.7 meters. Find the angle of depression from the top of the stairway to the bottom.

  5. # 3 At a point on the ground that is 30 feet from the base of a tree, the measurement of the angle of elevation from the bottom to the top of the tree is 65 degrees. How tall is the tree?

  6. # 4 A truck travels 650 meters up a hill with a 3 degree angle of elevation. How high did it rise during that distance?

  7. # 5 A flagpole casts a shadow 40 feet long when the measurement of the angle of elevation to the top of the flagpole is 32 degrees. How tall is the flagpole?

  8. Do Now Julian had Tylenol at school. Angel, the drug dog, chased Julian up a tree. Angel was 3 feet from the base of the tree barking at Julian. The angle of elevation was 75°. How far up the tree was Julian?
