  1. 8 Traits of Earnest God Seekers Psalm 63

  2. 1. You are MY God “O God, you are my God...” 63:1 I know this God for myself. I made a conscious choice to ask God to forgive my sin and lead my life based on the work of Jesus on the cross. How can I seek another man’s God? My parent’s God? Taste and see that the Lord is good…Delight yourself in the Lord Psalm 34:8, Psalm 37:4

  3. 2. I have vivid memories of worshipping God “I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and glory.” 63:2 David had memories of worshipping God in the Sanctuary. There was a life time habit developed of meeting with others and God for corporate worship. Earnest God seekers are looking for him in worship. Make it a habit of coming expectantly to worship each Sunday and Wednesday nights to create worship memories.

  4. 3. I see my life in perspective with God’s love “Because your love is better than life my lips will glorify you.” 63:3 When faced with desert and wilderness experiences our temporary home of earth gets swallowed up by the ‘grandness’ of God’s love and his care for us. I come to realize more and more that life is not about me!

  5. 4. I have 1 life long devotion in 1 direction -God “I will praise you as long as I live, and In your name I will lift up my hands.” 63:4 • God’s love is better than life. God, I will go to you when I am in trouble and when life is good. You are my constant in life that is unshakeable. Practicing the presence of God throughout my day.

  6. 5. Earnestly worshipping God engages all of me. “My soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you.” 63:1 In your name I will lift up my hands... With singing lips my mouth will praise you.” 63:5

  7. “Who will deny that true religion consists, in a great measure, in vigorous and lively actings of the inclination and will of the soul, or the fervent exercises of the heart? That religion which God requires, and will accept, does not consist in weak, dull, and lifeless, wishes, raising us but a little above a state of indifference. ”  Jonathan Edwards 19th century

  8. Truth without emotion produces dead orthodoxy and a church full of artificial admirers ... On the other hand, emotion without truth produces empty frenzy and cultivates shallow people who refuse the discipline of rigorous thought." John Piper Pastor, Bethlehem Baptist Church

  9. 6. A heart that turns to God on my bed. “On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.” 63:6 Having an awareness of God when I rise and when I sleep. Calling out to him in prayer, Lord, thank you for this day and your walking with me through it all! Lord, as I set foot on the floor I invite you to lead me.

  10. 7. My soul feasts on the person of God. “My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods…” 63:5 • How does my soul feast on God? • I observe who he is in the Word. I meditate on the truth of who he is. • God refreshes me like water in a dry land. • God is all powerful and full of glory • God’s love is better than life. • God upholds my life and helps me. • God is my protector

  11. 8. I cling to God’s assurance to protect me. “They who seek my life will be destroyed… the mouths of liars will be silenced.” 63:9-11 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand… take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6:13

  12. The Great Invitation from God Come, all you who are thirsty, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat! Why spend money on what is not bread And your labour on what does not satisfy Give ear and come to me; Hear me, that your soul may live! Isaiah 55
