  9. FOOD (definition): • Any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink, or plants absorb, in order to maintain life and growth is called FOOD.

  10. FOOD GROUPS: • Foods are grouped together when they share similar nutritional properties. The five basic food groups are: • Vegetables and fruits • Starchy foods • Dairy products • Food containing fat and sugar • Meat group

  11. VEGETABLES AND FRUITS: • Fresh vegetables are an important part of healthy diet. They provide several vitamins, minerals, iron, fibers and enzymes, and are good for the health of the digestive system. Most vegetable consists of phytochemicals, which help prevent the disease such as diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancers. • Fruits are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, fibers and carbohydrates. They contain a high quantity of antioxidants, which protects the body from potentially harmful substances

  12. STARCHY FOOD : • Starchy foods such as cereals, maize, rice, bread, pasta, potatoes are an essential part of a healthy diet. They contain carbohydrates which is an important source of energy. Starchy foods are considered as fuel for the body, providing energy.

  13. DAIRY PRODUCTS: • Dairy products include milk, cheese, butter, cream and yogurt. They are an excellent source of calcium and proteins. Dairy foods are also rich in vitamin A, B and D. Most milk products are high in fats, which help build up the body and provide energy. Milk and other dairy products are the best source of calcium.

  14. FOOD CONTAINING FATS AND SUGAR: • Fats and sugar are the powerful sources of energy required for our body. Fats such as butter, cheese, salad dressing and oils are high in calories. Consuming proper amounts of fat keeps your blood vessels from clogging , but on the other hand these fats in excess also clog our blood vessels.

  15. MEAT AND FISH GROUP: • This is generally the protein group. Eggs, meat and fish are the most important source of proteins, zinc, iron and B vitamins. We need protein for a number of bodily functions. It is involved in the development of strong bones, muscles, organs, tendons, and ligaments. It is also necessary for growth and repair of body.

  16. HEALTH  If you eat healthy foods, you are most likely to be healthy. To be fit you also have to take care to consume healthy foods. It is the general condition of a person in mind, body and spirit, usually meaning to being free from illness, injury or pain. • In order to maintain a healthy body, an 8 to 10 hours sleep is recommended. • Smiling a lot makes your face look younger. • Eat more fruits and vegetables. • Drinks lots of fresh water. • Running and jogging will keep your muscles strong and fit every day.

  17. HYGIENE : • FOOD HYGIENE: Food hygiene is all about preventing the spread of bacteria that can cause disease. To live and grow, bacteria need food and moisture, a warm home and time. • PERSONAL HYGIENE: Personal hygiene is generally defined as cleanliness of the body and proper maintenance of personal appearance.
