  2. THE CASTLES OF THE MIDDLE AGES The castle of the middle ages had many different parts. Some castles had water around them others did not. Castles had outer and inner castles. Drawbridges were often used. Parapets were low walls that where around the top edges of towers or castle walls. A postern gate was a back gate. Castles also had arrow loops they were narrow openings in the castle’s tower. Main gates to the castle were called portcullises and another thing was the rocky ledges they were important for the placement of the castle.

  3. knights in armor Knights had to go through many years of training to become a knight. They had to be pages and squires before becoming a knight. Knights had to be dressed in armor from head to toe. Knights had to ride horses also. Suits of armor were used combat or war. Armor was hard to get on and often took 2 men. Most protective armor was chain mail. Chain mail was joined metal rings.
