  2. Color Types: All the colors on the color wheel can be identified according to one of three types: • 1. Primary • 2. Secondary • 3. Intermediate

  3. Primary Colors: the three basic colors that create all the other color mixtures of the color wheel.

  4. Secondary Colors: these colors are created when a two primary colors are mixed in balanced portions.

  5. Intermediate Colors: these colors are created when a primary color is mixed with a secondary color.

  6. Color Relationships: All the colors on the color wheel can relate to one another according to either one of the two types of relationships. • 1. Analogous • 2. Complimentary

  7. Analogous colors: A sequence of colors that are side by side on the color wheel. When used together, analogous colors can help achieve a sense of harmony within the colors of a painting.

  8. Complimentary colors: A pairing of colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel. When used together, complimentary colors can help achieve contrast within a painting or photograph.

  9. Color Value: this refers to how much white or black is added to a color. Values can also be created just by mixing black and white with each other. There are two types of values: shades and tints.

  10. Shade: this color value is created by adding black to a color. • Tint: this color value is created by adding white to a color.
