  2. Location & Population • Republic of Tajikistan is located in Central Asia • Border countries: • Afghanistan - 1,206 km, China - 414 km, • Uzbekistan - 1,161 km, Kyrgyzstan – 870 km • Territory: 143 100 square km • Population: 7 380 000 people (Sunni Muslim 85%, Shi'a Muslim 5%, other 10%)

  3. Climate & Terrain Climate: Midaltitude continental, hot summers, mild winters Terrain: Pamir and Alay Mountains dominate landscape; 93 percent of territory is mountainous

Transportation • Tajikistan does not have direct access to sea port. • Shipments are conducted by transit through different countries: • Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China • Air transport: • Airports - with paved runways: 17 • Carriers: Tajik Air, Turkish Airlines, Southern China Airlines, Ariana, S7 Airlines, UTAir, Domodedovo Airlines, Samara Airlines, Vnukovo Airlines, Ural Airlines • Regular Flights: Munich, Istanbul, Sharjah, Urumqi, Kabul, Tehran, Delhi, Almaty, Bishkek, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Ekaterinburg, Samara, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen etc. • Railways: • Total length of railways – 678 km. • Railway is the main mean of transport in Tajikistan • 70% of cargo to/from Tajikistan transported by railway
