Marine Science, Law and Policy - SIO 209 Global Issues in Sea Turtle Conservation and Potential Policy Solutions Spring Quarter 2004 – 3 units 1:30 – 4:30pm Wednesday T-29 (Martin Johnson House) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography This 3-unit seminar course will investigate global issues in sea turtle conservation and potential policy solutions. The approach will be interdisciplinary, fast-paced and discussion oriented. Students will become acquainted with sufficient background in sea turtle biology, ecology, marine and conservation economics, and international law and policy as preparation for participation in discussions on real-world issues in sea turtle conservation. An active group of professors and visiting scientists from government, non-governmental agencies, academia and industry will provide ample opportunities for students to interact with professionals engaged in the real-life challenges, successes and failures of sea turtle conservation. Extensive reading list; field trip/s; course will culminate in public review of pending management plans.
