  1. Group BookWorms By: Matthew Brune, Shaun Wallace, and James Godfrey-Kittle

  2. Design Concept • Enhance the social interactivity of a usual solitary task. • i.e. Brushing teeth, listening to music, sleeping • We chose reading a book.

  3. Reading a Book • Solitary Task for hundreds of years • Space: Local Coffee Shop or a Book Store (i.e. Barnes & Noble) • Focus: Add a level of interaction to reading a book. • Problem: How do we go about adding interaction to reading a book and make it useful?

  4. Goals • We wanted to create an application that would enhance the experience of reading. • Adding social interaction • Aim this at the community of book lovers • Make it useful • Take a more modern approach.

  5. Background • To solve this predicament, we looked into the following existing products: • Kindle, Nook, Ipad, and Iphone • Itunes • AmazonBooks • Facebook

  6. Methodology • Techniques: Observation and Interviews • IDEO Cards: Fly on the Wall and Act it Out

  7. Research Outcomes • We really found a lot from our research. We had originally thought about a much wider scale and would build in access for airports and other forms of transportation • Scraped that idea but the interaction could be much richer on a smaller scale and it would easier to maintain those relationships. • We also found out a lot of information we incorporated into our application designs; such as conventions of traditional eReaders.

  8. Use Cases • http://www.vimeo.com/22898521

  9. Scenarios

  10. Future Work • We have thought of possibly implementing a sort of “cloud system” that could be viewed on entry to our space and see recently shared books there. • There are also a number of options to be implemented for our application like user reviews, recommendations, etc. • Future design in this area could use our product as a launch pad into a larger scale of literature sharing.
