  6. Green economy • Resource efficient society • Waste: • By 2020, waste is managed as a resource. • Recycling and re-use of waste are economically attractive options. • Landfill eliminated.

  7. Employment • Substantial increase in employment along with growing turnover • Forecast: • 50,000 new jobs in waste management • 500,000 new jobs in recycling

  8. New jobs • New functions: sorting, consulting, high-techandengineering • Sorting: a problemzoneof fast-paced, low-wage, riskyconveyorbeltwork • Somesecondarylabourmarket in recycling • Skillupgrading? (environmental consulting)

  9. Changing jobs - quality of work • Workload intensification • Uneven and difficult representation and social partnership • Limited time of contracts → losses of tenure with new contract • Unequal working conditions for new entrants = fragmentation of workforce

  10. Health and Safety • Identified as most important issue for employers and workers • New jobs, new risks? • Action plans? • Targets?
