  2. What is AIPO? • AIPO is the Arizona Immunization Program Office • Leads public health immunization efforts in the state • Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

  3. What are our goals? • Prepare for and respond to Public Health Emergencies • Provide a Safety Net of Services and Community Support • Promote Healthy and Safe Community Environments • Build awareness of public health value • Leverage technologies to achieve results

  4. What does AIPO do? • Vaccines for Children (VFC) • County/Partner Collaboration • School and Childcare Assessments • Health Education • Special Programs • ASIIS

  5. What is Vaccines For Children (VFC)? • A federal program that offers all ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) recommended vaccines at no cost for eligible children through VFC enrolled providers. • FY 2013: • Vaccine Doses Distributed: 1,527,216 • Vaccine Dollars Spent: $78,987,031.15 • Number of Arizona VFC Providers: 879

Who is ACIP? • The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for Centers for Disease Control (CDC) • Group of medical and public health experts that develops recommendations on how to use vaccines to control diseases in the United States • Recommendations stand as public health advice • lead to a reduction in the incidence of vaccine preventable diseases • increase in the safe use of vaccines and related biological products.

Immunization Schedules • ACIP provides general recommendations on childhood, adolescent, adult and catch-up vaccination schedules • Also provides recommendations for • Health-care Personnel • Travel Vaccinations • Pregnant Women • Complete list of ACIP recommendations are published in the MMWR • Schedules available on CDC website at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/index/html

What kind of Education Information and Resources are available? • Immunications – • Quarterly newsletter • Reaches over 2,800 healthcare professionals • Accessed online at http://azdhs.gov/phs/immunization/newsletters.htm • Annual Immunization Conference • 21st year • 250-300 healthcare professionals attend from around the state • 2014 Theme - Immunization Nation: across all Borders, across all Generations • April 23rd & 24th, 2014 • Registration open now at http://asdhs.gov/phs/immunization/conference.htm

What is the Arizona State Immunization Information System (ASIIS)? • Description • Created in 1994, the Arizona State Immunization Information System collects, stores, analyzes, releases and reports immunization data and serves as a record keeping system for all children who receive immunizations in Arizona • Number of enrolled providers • There are over 2500 providers enrolled • Number of children in the system • There are approximately 5 million children in the system

What is the Arizona State Immunization Information System (ASIIS)? • Number of doses in the system • From 1/1/1998 until now there have been 57,693,970 vaccines administered • Provider outreach • ASIIS hotline available Monday-Friday 8-5 pm to answer and assist any questions or concerns • Training for new and existing ASIIS users on the ASIIS homepage. Users have 24 hour access to on-line training modules that they can review as many times as they need. • In- person trainings at selected sites coming the summer of 2014.
