  1. 5th Meeting In Preparation of the Higgs Book Leandro Nisati, Vivek Sharma

  2. Agenda For Today’s Meeting • Update on activities and timeline for the book (AN, VS) • based on publication plans of ATLAS & CMS for the 5 low mass Higgs analyses and their combination • Discussion of any technical issues encountered by the authors (all) • Round table report on status of all book chapters & Next steps (all)

  3. Timeline For The Book: Current Status & Plan • Timeline is driven by the publication plans of ATLAS and CMS for the five High priority low mass analyses • γγ, ZZ, WW, bb, tau tau • As of now CMS has submitted Hbb, HWW and HZZ “legacy” papers for publication. Htautau and Hγγin the pipeline • converge by Jan.14 ?? • ATLAS published Hγγ, HZZ, HWW results around 4th July’13. Prelim results at EPS for Hbb and recently for Htt • ATLAS legacy papers expected in Spring 2014. • For High Mass Higgs analyses, just use published results so far from ATLAS & CMS • All Tevatron results are in as are LEP results ;-)

  4. Chapters That Must Be Completed By Jan’14 • Overview • Theory & Phenomenology • LEP & Tevatron • HWW, HZZ • High mass Higgs There is no reason to delay finalizing these papers. AN & VS have been reviewing chapter drafts and have had one-on-one meetings with the authors (since August) We need to get these chapters “out of the pipeline” and submitted for internal reviews so as to focus on the late arriving ones. Suggest internal reviews be done by appropriate & distinguished physicists simultaneously (Comments on this ??)

  5. Late Arriving Chapters • Hγγ, Htt,Hbb, Combination and Properties from CMS and ATLAS • Hγγchapter should be completed soon after CMS Hγγpaper hits collaboration wide review (ATLAS results already published, sufficient) • CMS Hbb published, waiting for ATLAS publication plan • CMS Htt should be submitted by Jan’14, waiting forATLAS • CMS will attempt a “combination and properties” paper in Moriond’14 time scale (?). In the very least we could use ATLAS published combination results from Hgg, HWW, HZZ • ATLAS+CMS combination will take longer, perhaps not in the timeline for this book?

  6. A Reminder On The Focus Of The Narrative • Typical journal publications describe best what was actually done in each analysis • don’t do a great job (Journal space restriction ?) in describing to the uninitiated why we do what we do • One of the major focus of this book should be to give a pedgogical narrative (big picture, appropriate for a starting PhD student) on the generalities of the analyses. Small details are not relevent (they can read the papers for details). A section on the outlook & projections for each analysis with the LHC Run 2 data would be very useful. • Write your narrative imagining you are doing a blackboard talk with enthusiastic grad students • Don’t write it as “ATLAS did this and CMS did that”

  7. Discussion Of Issues Encountered By Authors • Technical issues ? • Bibliography, FeynGraphs, Figures, event displays ?? • Integration within chapters, For example: • Does Pheno chapter have all the discussion needed for High mass Higgs chapters ? • details of discussions within the theory and Combination chapter • where does the Kappa etcdefinitionsfits best ?

  8. Chapter Status& Discussion On The Way Forward • Round Table on status report from all authors in order below
