  2. ADB aims for an Asia and Pacific free from poverty Approximately 1.8 billion people in the region are poor and unable to access essential goods, services, assets and opportunities to which every human is entitled.

  3. ADB – Overview • Established in 1966, ADB is focused on delivering projects that create economic and development impact. • Approved financing – $17.5 billion in 2010 • Operations in 40 Developing Member Countries in Asia and the Pacific. • Main devices for assistance are loans, grants, policy dialogue, technical assistance and equity investments.

Strategy 2020: ADB’s Long-term Strategic Framework (2008-2020) • 3 Strategic Agendas: • - inclusive growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration • 5 Core Areas of Operations: • - Infrastructure, Environment, Regional Cooperation and Integration, Finance Sector Development, and Education

  9. Key Environment and Climate Change Achievements in 2011 • 63 projects with environmental sustainability as a theme funded with about $7.2 billion • Clean energy investments of about $ 1.9 billion. • 15 new sustainable transport projects contained climate change components

Examples of New and Innovative GEF-5 Program and Project Developments • Greater Mekong Subregion Forests and Biodiversity Program (GMS-FBP) [with WB] • Asia Pacific Sustainable Transport and Urban Development Program (ASTUD) • Asia-Pacific Pilot Climate Technology Transfer Network and Finance Center [with UNEP] • Regional: LDCF - Climate Proofing Development in the Pacific (under development)
