  19. Canada.com reports: Human rights groups are raising alarms over a new law passed by the Iranian parliament that would require the country's Jews and Christians to wear colored badges to identify them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims. • Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth. - May 19, 2006

EU REBUFFS US CALL TO PUT HEZBOLLAH ON TERROR LIST • The EU Observer reports: The EU will not for the time being put the Islamist Hezbollah movement on its blacklist of terrorist organizations but the discussion could re-emerge in the future, the Finnish EU presidency has said. • Finnish foreign minister Erkki Tuomioja declared after crisis talks with EU counterparts on Tuesday (1 August) iven the sensitive situation where we are, I don't think this is something we will be acting on now. Mr. Tuomioja's remarks came as a response to a letter signed by 213 members of the US Congress, sent to EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, demanding that the EU follows the US in branding Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. - August 2, 2006

  22. EU REBUFFS US CALL TO PUT HEZBOLLAH ON TERROR LIST • The EU Observer reports: But despite the bloc's negative response to Washington, the Finnish minister indicated that the EU could take up the discussion in the near future, when the international community manages to reach a peace deal between Israel and Hezbollah. • This could happen later on when we will see the outcome of a future political agreement, the Finnish minister said. - August 2, 2006

  23. Cursing the right of Israel land • At the interior ministry there was a mood of defiance in the face of the Western pressure. • Workers were angry that Europe and the Americans were siding with Israel, rather than the Palestinian (claimed)victims of Israel's occupation. - 2006

  27. Results of curses Curses of Yhwh God Almighty

  28. Palestinian government paralysing • Mr Abu Mayiliq said he could even imagine his ministry eventually grinding to a halt: • "If there is no money there will be no salaries, then there will be no paper, no stationery - no maintenance for the electronics. No utilities being paid. This would paralyse the government's work."

  29. The new Hamas government has walked into a major financial crisis. - 2006 • Its refusal to renounce violence and recognise Israel has led to the halting of large amounts of European and American economic support. And Israel itself has withheld payments of tens of millions of dollars that it owes the Palestinians.

  30. Striking due to NO PAY • A translator at the information ministry, Yassir Abu Mayiliq was in a darker mood. • He said that some of his colleagues had talked of striking if there was no pay or no promise of it. - 2006

  31. While worldwide attempts continue in an effort to moderate Hamas and have it agree to negotiate with Israel, Hamas issues a bellicose "Nakba Day" proclamation rendering all such efforts moot. • The Arabs of the Palestinian Authority [PA] commemorate May 15–the date of the end of the British Mandate in 1948, which made room for the formation of the State of Israel–as their "Nakba Day," or Day of Catastrophe. The Hamas terrorist movement, which now controls the PA after an overwhelming popular election victory earlier this year, issued its Nakba Day proclamation [May15], effectively putting to rest any chances for peace with Israel.

  32. The Hamas announcement emphasizes the justness of terrorism against Israel, as well as the unyielding nature of its demand for the return of millions of Arabs to Israel. It repeats, several times, the claim that the Arabs were cruelly thrown out of their homes by Israel in 1948–when in fact the largest number of Arab refugees fled only at the urging of their own leaders, who promised them a swift victory over the fledgling Jewish state and a quick return to their homes.

  33. Arab League Secretary-General Habib Issa said in June 1951 that his predecessor Azzam Pasha had "assured the Arab peoples that the occupation of Palestine and of Tel Aviv would be as simple as a military promenade...and that all the millions the Jews had spent on land and economic development would be easy booty, for it would be a simple matter to throw Jews into the Mediterranean..." • In addition, the Research Group for European Migration Problems found in 1957 that "as early as the first months of 1948, the Arab League issued orders exhorting the people to seek a temporary refuge in neighboring countries, later to return to their abodes...and obtain their share of abandoned Jewish property." • Abu Mazen himself–now the chairman of the PA–wrote in 1976, "The Arab states succeeded in scattering the Palestinian people and in destroying their unity. They did not recognize them as a unified people until the states of the world did so, and this is regrettable." • Time Magazine, on May 3, 1948, described the Arab flight from Haifa: "The mass evacuation, prompted partly by fear, partly by order of Arab leaders, left the Arab quarter of Haifa a ghost city...by withdrawing Arab workers their leaders hoped to paralyze Haifa." • Monsignor George Hakim, the Greek Catholic Bishop of Galilee, said in 1949 that the Arabs of Haifa "fled in spite of the fact that the Jewish authorities guaranteed their safety and rights as citizens of Israel." • Even a British police commander in Haifa said in April 1948, "Every effort is being made by the Jews to persuade the Arab populace to stay and carry on with their normal lives, to get their shops and businesses open and to be assured that their lives and interests will be safe."

  34. Every year, as the date of Israel's Independence (May 15) approaches, Palestinian Authority [PA] TV broadcasts numerous programs and video clips to mourn Israel's creation–what they call the "Nakba," the catastrophe. The recurring themes are the denial of Israel's right to exist and the callfor the undoing of "the catastrophe"–a euphemism for Israel's destruction.

  35. This year's recurring clip shows the map of Israel–entitled "Palestine"–scrolling slowly down the screen. The date 1948–the year of Israel's establishment–repeatedly appears on the screen, behind bars. At the end of the clip an old woman is shown, while the words on the screen read: "Palestine is the land of my forefathers. LEAVE IT." - 2006

  36. get rid of your chosen people mentality • Added: Saturday, 19 August, 2006, 13:04 GMT 14:04 UK • how long will peace last? well israel just detain the Hamas PM. does that mean Hamas have the right to attack the way israel did when their solifders are captured?israel, if u want peace then u have to learn to live with everyone and treat everyone as equal. maybe its time to get rid of your chosen people mentality. • chan chow wah, singapore • Recommended by 79 people

  37. Apartheid • Added: Saturday, 19 August, 2006, 12:41 GMT 13:41 UK • Israel again proves it's only interested in domination, not negotiation. It's odd that Jews & Israeli Arabs seem to live ok in some parts of Israel. Also Jews & Arabs live in peace in my home town (there are many at uni). There are Jewish people living all over the Arab world & even in Iran! I think the problem lies with Israeli government's separation policy in the West Bank; ie. Arabs living in refugee camps whilst Isralis live in closed settlements. Note another word 4 separation is Apartheid • Anon, Durham, UK • Recommended by 60 people

  38. Israel must be normalised • Added: Saturday, 19 August, 2006, 12:38 GMT 13:38 UK • Israel must be normalised if real peace to be achieved. • ali mustafa, hamar, Norway • Recommended by 64 people

  39. Added: Saturday, 19 August, 2006, 12:33 GMT 13:33 UK • Can any "peace" hold over there? It's just another very brief break in a much larger and longer blood feud. Somewhere along the line, we have to hope individuals will step forward from both the Arab/Muslim world and Israel to work for a just compromise for all their peoples- and the entire world, which has now been pulled along into this maelstrom as never before. Let's worry less about any new "Messiah" or "Second Coming", and worry more about finding some peacebuilders- for all our sakes. • J. R. Smith, Los Angeles • Recommended by 18 people

  40. Added: Saturday, 19 August, 2006, 12:31 GMT 13:31 UK • Israel is a terrorist organization with a national flag. They keep killing innocent civilians in the name of self defense. The cheek of it! Since when did military aid become an attack on another country? Iran and Syria has every right to supply arms to the Hezbollah and Hezbollah. US gives Israel over $1 billion aid a year for military accoutrements. Who doesn't know about this? Has Isreal been attacked for taking aid? Since when double standards become acceptabl • Quophi, Accra , Ghana • Recommended by 68 people

  41. Added: Saturday, 19 August, 2006, 12:30 GMT 13:30 UK • It now becomes clear why Lebanon is in the mess it is in. It has to depend on terrorists for protection and to give alms. As in the words of 'president' Emile Lahoud, when he saluted Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah "who willed this victory to be a victory for all Lebanese and all the Arab peoples". • BOLEH Land, Bolehland • Recommended by 20 people

  42. Added: Sunday, 20 August, 2006, 08:21 GMT 09:21 UK • Have you heard of 1701 violations by Hizbullah? The very next day Israel agreed to cease-fire, Nasrallah declared that he will not abide to it. The 1701 is dead. All over again. • Arthur Sherman, Ramat Gan, Israel • Recommended by 14 people

  43. Calling terrorists freedom fighters • Added: Sunday, 20 August, 2006, 05:37 GMT 06:37 UK • I am really surprised at the ignorance of many readers. while commenting they forget a few very basic facts which are;Israel is an is in occupation of arab lands since 1967 and so called terrorists fighting Israel are freedom fighters trying to get their lands and homes liberated. True, some radical elements call for destruction of Israel but the majority is willing to make peace if Israel finishes its occupation. So this conflict will continue and breed new terrorists till Israeli vacates. • Sam, Sacramento • Recommended by 22 people

  44. Added: Sunday, 20 August, 2006, 05:16 GMT 06:16 UK • this ceasefire cannot hold. israel & US will try to take revenge of their humilating defeat at the hand of a militia group and also to impose their world order in ME. now nobody from israel is talking for their two captured soldiers.they r only breking the ceasefire to salvage their lost pride. • muneeb ahmad dar, abha • Recommended by 16 people
